Umoyove trail is one of the best most exciting trails with amazing experience in Nyungwe forest national park Rwanda. Umoyove trail is also known as the Mahogany trail which will take you through to the waterfall where you will see the tallest trees of the forest.

The Umoyove trail takes you through an off-beaten track where you will see most of the tourist attractions found in Nyungwe forest national park. Walking with the waterfall trail gives you a big opportunity to enjoy the sound of the river flowing through the forest floor, call of various bird species, primates, butterfly species, trees and many others.

The trail stretches about 3 kilometers which takes like 1 hour to compete for the hike, and this offers you a breathtaking experience as you walk along the waterfalls and see the various bird species and primates such as chimpanzees, colobus monkeys.

Nyungwe Forest National Park has a steep landscape and extensive network of hiking trails making it the best destination for hikers in Rwanda as well as entire East Africa. The mahogany trail is different in length, its features and easy to hike.  Tourists have a chance to see different types of monkeys all on the hike like colobus monkeys. So, be sure to keep your eyes open, listen for different sounds within the forest and do not forget to bring a camera with extra batteries, binoculars zoom to get those who are in the distance.

The Umoyove trail can be hiked throughout the year, but it is not good in the wet months is from March, April, May, October and December, the trail tends to be wet and slippery, then during this period there is always few visitors do nature walks and face a tough experience. However, this season is best for bird lovers as it allows them to spot various bird species and migratory birds are common in the forest at such time.
