Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Upon your arrival, meet and greet our company representative and guide for a short briefing and transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park in the southern province of Rwanda. The journey is approximant six hours drive from the city center hence, requires an early transfer. We will drive through the lush countryside of Rwanda with a brief stopover at the National Museum in Butare arriving late in the evening for dinner and overnight at your booked lodge.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking And Canopy Walk

You will wake up by 5:00 am to have a heavy breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters for briefing on dos and don’ts of the activity. Then you will be led by the park ranger into the deep forest to look for chimps before they wake up. The advantage of finding Chimpanzees before they wake up is, you will have more time with them since it is hard to locate them when they start moving due to the rough terrain of the forest and the speed at which these primates move.
You will have a full hour of a close encounter with the chimps before returning to the lodge for lunch. Later head for a Canopy walk experience on top of Nyungwe Forest. Drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer To Volcanoes National Park, Twin Lakes Visit

Have breakfast and start a long drive to the northern province, a journey that could take approximately 6 – 7 hours. We will have a stopover in town for hot lunch before we reach Volcanoes National Park in time for a short visit to the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. After this visit, we will drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight as you prepare for a magical mountain gorilla trekking experience the next day.

Day 4: Gorilla Tracking & Iby’Iwacu Cultural Visit

After a heavy breakfast, head to the park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing and then start your trail into the jungles in search for Mountain gorillas. After meeting these primates, you will spend an hour with them and later descend to the starting point to pick your gorilla trekking certificate and later drive straight to the lodge for lunch. Relax and in the evening, go for a cultural tour at Iby’Iwacu cultural village where you will watch people dancing, enjoy storytelling moments along with other cultural activities. After this exciting community tour, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Gorilla Trekking Permits In Rwanda

Gorilla trekking is among the most celebrated tourism activity that travelers enjoy and participate in. Where to obtain the permits

If you a tourist and you want to travel to Rwanda for gorilla trekking safari, you will be required to have a permit with you.  The permit can be obtained from trusted tour operators like Africa Adventure Vacations or Rwanda development board at a cost of 1500USD. You know the gorilla permit is valid only for one day and it will work on the day you want to take part in the activity and if you want to do other activities in the park, you can pay some extra fee.

A knowledgeable guide

After purchasing your gorilla trekking permit in Rwanda, you will be given an opportunity to get knowledge about the park from a knowledgeable guide and will take you throughout your gorilla trekking experience. He or she will give you free information about the primates and if you have questions you will pose them to him and you will be answered immediately.  You should also know that the guide knows the safest trails to use so as to avoid accidents.

An armed ranger

The permit allows you to have an armed ranger that will accompany you throughout your activity in the park.
