2 days hiking mount Bisoke  takes you to one of the 5 mountains in Rwanda Bisoke / Visoke which is shared by DR Congo and Rwanda for climbing safari. The mountain is located in the Volcanoes national park of Rwanda which is home to the endangered mountain gorillas. Mountain Bisoke is a dormant volcano with an elevation of 3711 meters above sea level. The mountain was formed as a result of earth movements around the east African rift valley. Mountain Bisoke is one of the most hiked mountains because it has a beautiful crater lake at the top. Hiking mountain Bisoke can be done by everyone as long as they are physically fit. The mountain is surrounded by beautiful vegetation which acts as a home to different bird species and animals such as gorillas, buffaloes, monkeys, bush pigs, and many others. 2 days mount Bisoke hiking safari can be combined with chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe forest national park and gorilla trekking experiences in Volcanoes national park Rwanda

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Musanze and twin lakes

Our diver guide will pick you up from your residence or hotel or Kigali international airport and transfer you to Musanze town after a briefing about your journey. Musanze town is located in the northwestern part of Rwanda near Volcanoes national park. Driving from Kigali to Musanze is about 2.5 hours. On your way to Musanze, you will have beautiful views of rolling hills, local people, beautiful scenery, and traditional homesteads. On reaching Musanze, you will check-in at your booked hotel relax, have some lunch. After lunch, our driver-guide will drive you to lake Ruhondo and lake Burera which are located on the foothills of mountain Sabyinyo on the orders of Musanze and Uganda. On lake Ruhondo and lake Burera you will have a boat cruise which will make you have beautiful views of surrounding mountains – Bisoke, Karisimbi, Muhabura, Sabyinyo and Gahinga, local fishermen, rolling hills and different bird species. After a visit to twin lakes Ruhondo and Burera, you will drive back to your lodge for evening relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Hike mount Bisoke to crater lake and transfer back to Kigali

After early morning breakfast, our drive start will pick you up and drive you to Kinigi park which is Volcanoes national park headquarters for a pre hiking briefing. After the briefing, you will be given a well-experienced guide who has any information you would need about the mountain. You will need a walking stick bought at the starting point to help you balance during hiking and a porter in case of heavy luggage but at a fee of $10. Hiking mountain Bisoke is a full day taking you about 6 hours ascending and 2 hours descending back to the starting point. Hiking mountain Bisoke takes you through thick vegetation covers such as bamboo, hypericum as well as sub-alpine which are habitats of different such as elephants, buffaloes, bush pigs, mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, and different bird species. On a lucky day, if you meet mountain gorillas during hiking you are given a maximum of 10 minutes to watch them from a distance and you are not allowed to take the pictures or even record them. Upon reaching the summit of mountain Bisoke, you will have stunning views of the crater lake, view other Virunga mountain ranges, take pictures, and record videos. You will then have your packed lunch after which descend the mountain down to the starting point. At the starting point, you will find your drive ready to transfer you back to Kigali at either your hotel or the airport for your flight.
