Places to visit and tour in Democratic Republic of Congo: Excessive reports from the media had had a negative impact on tourism in DR Congo by scaring away visitors. It’s true that democratic republic of Congo formerly called Zaire has experienced prolonged periods of insecurity caused by armed rebellions, corruption and bad governance structures. In fact care should be used while touring certain parts of democratic republic of Congo which hosts UN’s largest peace keeping mission.  However we cannot afford to conclude all about the security situation in democratic republic of Congo because it’s a very large country. Not every part of democratic republic of Congo is unsafe as it’s claimed sometimes. The government and the armed ranges/ park wardens in the park take the security of the tourists very serious and tourists are expected to go through several security protocols and be safe guarded by armed rangers within and outside DR Congo parks. Mountain gorilla trekking in DR Congo is sometimes suspended when the management of Virunga national park consider it unsafe for tourists.

DR Congo has one the most gorgeous parks that have a large number of wild animals and plant species. Visitors on a DR Congo safari will have a great view of stunning landscape, water bodies, endless green forest and unique species such as elusive okapi.  If there was total peace in DR Congo, the country would be Africa’s number one safari destination. Democratic republic of Congo has its capital Kinshasa having a strong diplomatic community and about 10 million people. The place has important places to visit such as the “Symphonies Nature less” with cool forests and well developed roads.  While in Kinshasa one can visit the street art, historical buildings, musee national de Kinshasa, snake farm and the central market of Matonge.

Kahuzi-Biega national park:

This park was named after mountain Kahuzi and Biega located in south of Kivu. Kahuzi-Biega national park is popularly known for habituated lowland gorilla trekking. Eastern lowland gorillas have been reduced in number by poachers but the conservationists, government and well-wishers is putting in much efforts to increase their numbers. Unlike mountain gorillas, eastern lowland gorilla trekking is easy. Gorilla trekking permits in Kahuzi-Biega national park can be got on a short notice and trekking long distance on steep mountain slopes is not allowed. Apart from gorillas, tourists on a DR Congo wildlife safari can go and see elephants, chimpanzees and antelopes.

Virunga national park:

Virunga national park is the oldest park in Africa gazatted in 1925 with an aim of protecting mountain gorillas and among the best places to visit in Congo for primate experiences. The park is located near DR Congo border with Rwanda and Uganda, Virunga national park is designated as a UNESCO world heritage site. The remarkable landscape and biological diversity located in Virunga national park making it one of the gorgeous places to visit in the world. Gorilla trekking and hiking Nyiragongo volcano are the two main activities you can engage in while on your tour in the park. But tourists on a DR Congo safari can spot endangered elusive okapi between giraffes and zebras. Visitors are also can choose to visit the forests, valleys, plains, swamps and savannah vegetation or spot lions, hippos, African golden cats as well as over 400 bird species. After gorilla trekking in Virunga national park, you can go to Senkwekwe gorilla orphanage and pay a visit on the world’s mountain gorilla orphanage.

Garamba national park:

This is the less visited national park in Congo. The park is one of Africa’s great national parks. Visitors on a tour to Garamba national park should expect to see the stunning views of unending African savannah as well as grassland. The park is a habitant of giraffes, rhinos, hippos, antelopes and a number of bird species. However the big concentration of animals in the park is threated by increased poaching. You should be alert while visiting this park on a RD Congo safari because rebels and armed groups from neighboring countries are deep inside the forests as refugees.

Salonga national park:

This is Africa’s largest rain forest and it’s a UNESCO world heritage site in the country. There is enough fauna and flora in the park marking the visiting of the park a must. In this park visitors will see peacocks, chimpanzees, slender-snorted crocodile and forest elephants.

Mountain Nyiragongo volcano:

This brightens the skies of Goma city and Virunga national park. The volcano last erupted in 2011 leaving 100,000 homeless and other surrounding areas with ash. The mountain lava created the largest Crater Lake in the whole world which still sends smoke up the sky attracting so many visitors every year. Hiking up Nyiragongo Mountain is a 2 days activity which involves sleeping on top o f the volcano after being rewarded with a breathtaking close view of the crater boiling.

Lola Ya Bonobo Sanctuary:

This is one of the attracting places to go visit in Congo Kinshasa. The place is home to endangered pygmy chimpanzees that are only found in DR Congo in the world. The bonobos are peaceful compared to other gorillas hut have faced a problem of being hunted for their meat. The sanctuary covers an area of about 30 hectares protecting youngsters left orphaned after killing their parents

Other activities that visitors can get involved in while on a wildlife tour in DR Congo include
