Kageyo peninsular area is located in Akagera national park in the eastern side of Rwanda. Getting to Kageyo peninsular is about 2-3 hours’ drive from Kigali the capital city of Rwanda. From Lake Hago, Kageyo peninsular is away 34 kilometers and it connects to the main route. It also serves as a community in the eastern side of Rwanda. After Rwanda genocide that happened in 1956, many people sought refuge in the nearby countries such as Tanzania. But in 2007, the government chased away all refugees back to their countries and some of them were forced to pack and go back to Rwanda.

Moe than 450 families settled at the border of Rwanda in Akagera national park side of Kageyo where government had set some part for them.  These people form a community at Kageyo places in and around Kageyo peninsular includes Nyampiki peninsular takes you towards the eastern shores of Lake Hago and this is a perfect place for you to spot a number of wildlife such as elephants, zebras, buffaloes and the hippos that live in Lake Hago. The vegetation at the shores of Lake Hago are thick and in some months when the vegetation is much its hard for you to see most of the wildlife species most especially vervet monkeys, baboons and impalas that live within this area.

Roads in and around Kageyo peninsular include Buyanja secondary road, Buyanja tertiary road, Kabare school road, Igihuru road, Sante street center, Gacaca route, Gahini route and many others.

Other peninsular or game loops to discover in and around Akagera national park Rwanda include the Kitabili loop, Rwisirabo loop, Giraffe loop, Rurama loop, Kilala plains, Mohana plains, Nyampiki peninsular, Kajumbura lookout, Nyamabuye lookout and Magashi peninsular to mention but a few. Each peninsular or game loop in Akagera national park has unique wildlife to offer to visitors.

Getting to Kageyo peninsular of Akagera national park

Kageyo peninsular is located in the eastern part of Rwanda about 2 – 3 hours drive from the capital city Kigali. Getting to Kageyo peninsular needs you to have a good and comfortable 4-wheel drive safari car to aid you navigate through the remote roads in the north eastern side of Rwanda. Alternatively, you can book a helicopter flight from Kigali international airport to Akagera while having the aerial view of Rwanda.

Interesting thing about Rwanda is that it’s a remarkable destination that gives visitors an opportunity not only to enjoy the game viewing in Akagera national park but also meet face to face with rare mountain gorillas in volcanoes national park in the northwestern side of Rwanda. You can also go mountain hiking, Dian Fossey grave hike as well as golden monkey trekking in volcanoes national park. There is also Nyungwe national park for chimpanzee trekking, colobus monkey trek not forgetting canopy walk one of its kind in east Africa.
