Can I Stay in Nkuringo and trek Rushaga mountain gorillas in the South of Bwindi? Yes, it is very much possible for visitors to stay in Nkuringo and later trek the gorillas in Rushaga. If you have never been to Uganda. You need to understand that mountain gorillas in Uganda are found in 2 National parks namely Mgahinga gorilla national park and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park is most known and most people from different countries prefer trekking gorillas in their natural habitats. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National has got 4 starting points for gorilla trekking and these include Buhoma gorilla trekking sectors, Ruhija gorilla trekking sectors, Rushaga Gorilla trekking sectors, and Nkuringo Gorilla trekking sectors. Buhoma is located on the northern side, Ruhija is situated in the east of the park, while Nkuringo and Rushaga are found in the south of the park. Of course, there are some disadvantages and disadvantages of trekking gorillas in the Nkuringo sector, however, we recommend it as the best sector where you can stay and trek the gorillas in Rushaga but you as well opt to do gorilla trekking in Nkuringo.

I emphasize you to stay in Nkuringo lodges and explore the gorillas in Rushaga because for some good time it has been proven that gorillas families in Rushaga gorilla trekking sectors are easy to trek and see as compared to those gorilla families in Nkuringo. We have also seen that our clients who trek gorillas in Rushaga come out from the park earlier as compared to those who trek Nkuringo gorillas. It is true that visitors who are less fit and wouldn’t like a more demanding gorilla trekking activity then they should opt to trek gorillas in Rushaga as compared to Nkuringo gorillas that are strenuous to trek gorillas and thus we recommended that you use Nkuringo lodges and trek gorillas in Rushaga gorilla trekking sector.

Sometime back it would look like a weird decision for a person to stay in Nkuringo and trek gorillas in the Rushaga sector and people would think that is unwise to make that decision however all these thoughts were made because no good roads were linking the two sectors. Does it mean that you should not trek mountain gorillas in the Nkuringo sector of Bwindi?

Some people tend to misinterpret the above-heightened comments and think that it is not possible or they should avoid trekking gorillas in the Nkuringo sector but it is no true. If you want high demanding and adventurous gorilla trekking activity then the Nkuringo sector is the best option.  The sectors combine the gorilla trekking experience that comes with hiking experience, Rushaga you can go in the morning at 8 for trekking and return at 4 in the evening so you can imagine their exercises you will have made and the experience that you could have gained from such high demanding activity. The ideas of us saying that you can stay in Nkuringo and trek gorillas in Rushaga is nothing else other than saying that they are easier however this study is not scientific proven simply because of the following reasons;

Visitor can as well stay in Nkuringo and get a more flexible, relaxed gorilla family that he or she can trek the fact that the gorilla family allocation is done at Rushaga park headquarters early in the morning where you will be allocated the gorilla family depending on the interests of individual and maybe their physical fitness. In case, you stress that you need an easier group then the park officials will sign to you a gorilla family that is easier and can easily be found. Still in Rushaga don’t think that all the gorillas’ families available for trekking are easily found, it is not a guarantee that you will go to Rushaga and trek then see the gorillas within a short period. This might not be guaranteed. As you are aware, mountain gorillas stay comfortably in the wild and they are ever on move for food and thus it is very hard to ascertain their movements, however, our recommendations just rely upon the things that can be avoided.
