Which African Countries allow quarantine free Travel? Yes, there are a number of African countries that allow tourists in without quarantine or limited restrictions; these include South Africa, Egypt, Djibouti, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Tanzania, Tunisia, Namibia, Somalia and Zambia

Uganda

Quarantine is not required in Uganda for foreign non-residents arriving at Entebbe international airport with a negative PCR COVID-19 test result done by an accredited laboratory in the country of origin unless the traveler shows any signs or symptoms of Corona Virus. Such persons are transferred to a designated government center for a COVID-19 test where they must remain, at their own cost, until the results of the test are out. Tourists who test positive are either taken to a Ministry of Health facility for treatment or repatriated at their own cost.

Primate tracking/Watching in Uganda: Primate tracking is one of the highlights of safari activities in Uganda and most of the tourists in Uganda have known Uganda as the tourism destination because of primate tracking. Gorilla Trekking in Uganda: Gorilla trekking is one of the travel life-changing and enjoyable activities that one would not miss participating in while in Uganda. The activity of gorilla trekking involves the visitors visiting gorillas in forests which they inhabit naturally, by trekking the well-habituated gorilla family. Gorilla trekking in Uganda is done in only two national parks of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park. Gorilla trekking starts at 7:00 am at the respective park headquarters with a briefing, the briefing is intended to make you aware of what you’re supposed to do and not as you move in the forest searching for the endangered Mountain Gorilla. Here you will need a gorilla trekking permit to be able to see mountain gorillas and each gorilla trekking permit USD700 for the foreign non-residents, USD600 for the East African Residents and Uganda shillings 250,000 for the East African Citizens. Once you have paid for the permit, you will be allowed to trek gorillas and once you see them, you will be given only one hour to see them, learn how they interact with each other’s and their feeding habits. However, one can decide to book for chimpanzee habituation experience in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park where you can spend 4 hours with gorillas and the gorilla habituation experience permit costs 1500 per person per trek.

Golden Monkey Trekking in Uganda: As the matter of fact in east Africa it’s only in Uganda and Rwanda where Golden monkey tracking is done. In Uganda, golden monkey tracking is done in Mgahinga Forest National Park. Like any other primate visitors will spend only one hour seeing the golden monkeys and the golden monkey trekking permit costs USD100. Still you can opt to do golden monkey habituation experience and spend more time with the primate (4) hours and visitors interested in this activity will be able to pay United States dollars Golden 140.

Kenya

Travelers must conduct a PCR COVID test within 96 hours of their travel. Passengers entering from the port must fill out the Port Health form available on the Jitenge MoH Kenya app.

Tanzania

The Government of Tanzania implemented temperature scanning for all international passengers arriving into Tanzania through different international airports. Tourists who show signs and symptoms of COVID-19 on arrival, are required to take a test and if you your test reveals positive results, you are advised to go self-isolation for a period of 14 days.

South Africa

Tourists arriving in South Africa must present a valid certificate of a negative COVID-19 test obtained not more than 72 hours before the date of travel. Under circumstances where a traveler fails to present a certificate as proof of a negative COVID-19 test, she or he is required to do an antigen test at his or her own cost and if he or she tests positive to COVID-19, he or she will be required to undergo quarantine at his or her own costs. Please note that travelers from currently high-risk countries travelling to SA for non-essential duties or tourism, it is hard to grant them entry.

Djibouti

All traveler to Djibouti above 11 year must go for COVID-19 testing sessions on arrival to the airport and must remain at the entry point until his or her results are out. Travelers who test negative are granted to continue with their respective journeys into the country however, those who test positive serve a quarantine period in a government-designated hospital or hotel.

Ghana

Tourists who test negative for COVID-19 upon arrival in Ghana do not go into quarantine however persons who test positive for COVID-19 on arrival in Ghana, asymptomatic or not, are required to undergo mandatory quarantine and treatment at a designated government health facility or isolation center for a period of seven (7) days at an expense Ghanaian government.

All passengers in quarantine undergo a repeat COVID-19 test within 24 hours of arrival still at an expense of the Government of Ghana.

Egypt

All foreign non-residents arriving in Egypt and Egyptian nationals coming back home must present a negative PCR test certificate issued within 72 – 96 hours prior to departure and those who fail to produce said certificate are tested on arrival. If a traveler tests positive, the Egyptian authorities may advise them to go self-isolation for 14 days in a separate room allocated for quarantine within their hotel of residence.

Guinea-Bissau

Travelers arriving in Guinea Bissau must present a negative COVID-19 test result from an accredited institution, issued within the previous 72 hours. At times you may fill in a form with information about your origin and contacts. Passengers who show any signs and symptoms of COVID-19 on arrival, are tested again for verification and must remain in isolation a designated place until results are out. If a passenger on your flight is suspected to have COVID-19, you are advised to go into self-isolation for 14 days and monitored by the health authorities.

Namibia

Arriving foreign non-residents don’t undergo into quarantine as long as they present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result not older than 7 days. However, non-Namibian travelers arriving with a negative result that is older than 7 days are put in quarantine and tested for COVID-19 on the same day at their own cost. If positive, travelers are isolated at their own cost in accordance to Namibia’s isolation protocols.

Somalia

Passengers must have a printed medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) PCR test result. The test must have been taken at most 72 hours before departure from the place of origin and all certificates must be in English.

Senegal

There is no requirement to quarantine when arriving in Senegal unless tested positive for COVID-19. Passengers must have a medical certificate with a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) RT-PCR test result issued at most 5 days before departure from place of origin. However; this does not apply to passengers under 2 years. Travelers departing from high risk countries may not be granted entry.

Zambia

Business and leisure travel to Zambia are available. Traveler entering Zambia with a body temperature equal to, or above 38.0 C are tested for COVID-19 on arrival. However, any other arrivals may be randomly selected for testing. These tests are in addition to the requirement for tourists who show proof that they tested negative for COVID-19 in the 14 days before their arrival.

Tunisia

Travelers must fill a Health Declaration form before departure to any next travel destination. A QR code generated from the completed form is presented prior to boarding and to immigration office 0n arrival. Tourist entering or transiting through Tunisia should present a printed negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test result issued at most 72 hours before departure from the country of origin. Please note that the test COVID-19 certificate must be in Arabic, English or French.

This does not apply to tourists below 12 years and passengers traveling as part of an organized all-inclusive tour.
