14 days Rwanda safari tour adventure allows you to explore the whole of Rwanda in two weeks; featuring destinations like Nyungwe forest national park which is Rwanda’s primate park with chimpanzees and other 12 primates, Akagera national park which happens to be the only savannah park with 5 five mammals and lastly volcanoes national park which is the only park you can find mountain gorillas. Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to your hotel in Kigali

Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, our English-speaking driver-guide will be ready at the airport to receive you and transfer you to Kigali city where you will be having your stay. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Kigali city tour

After a relaxed morning breakfast, meet your driver-guide who will connect you to Kigali city to visit places like the Kigali genocide memorial where many people who were killed in the 1994 Rwanda genocide were rested, Kimironko market the biggest in Kigali, art galleries, craft shops and other interesting places in the city. You will have lunch at any local restaurant if you wish. Later evening return back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe forest national park

After your morning breakfast check out of the lodge meet your safari guide for a transfer to Nyungwe forest national park. On your way to the park, you will pass through wonderful and stunning hills and cultivated countryside. You will have a stopover at the royal king’s palace in Nyanza for a cultural description of the history of Rwanda and also have a visit to Rwanda national museum. You will continue with the journey and stop at Butare town where you will be served lunch then proceed to Nyungwe national park and reach in the afternoon. Upon reaching the park you will visit the new Visitor’s Centre to know information about the park such as the number of primates found in the park, different bird species, and other tourist activities done in the park. You will proceed to the lodge to check-in for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Forest nature walk

After morning breakfast, you will head out to the forest for a forest nature walk which will allow you to explore the park’s unique tourist features among which include waterfalls and orchids in the swamps and also views of the surrounding areas. You will return to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, you will spend the rest of the day relaxing or opt to participate in tea harvesting in the neighboring local communities. Come back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking

After early morning breakfast, your safari driver will transfer you to the park headquarters in Nyungwe for a briefing about chimpanzee trekking before the final chimpanzee trekking activity. However, you are advised to come along with packed lunch and enough drinking water for this activity since it can take over 6 hours depending on the location of these primates. During chimpanzee trekking, you will see other primates in the park such as colobus monkeys, mammals, birds, butterflies as well as different vegetation covers. When you meet these primates, you will be given a maximum of one hour to be around them, watch them do daily activities as you take photos and record videos. After an hour with the primates, you will get back to the starting point, meet the driver guide and get back to the lodge for lunch, afternoon relaxation, dinner, and an overnight.

Day 6: Transfer to Kibuye along the shores of Lake Kivu

You will have a relaxed morning breakfast, transfer to Kibuye along the shores of Lake Kivu. Lake Kivu is one of the beautiful lakes and the largest freshwater lake in the Albertine Rift of the western Great Rift Valley. On the shores of the lake is Kibuye which happens to be one of the country’s most attractive lake ports surrounded by undulating hills and will offer beautiful views of the lake with its islands plus the surrounding areas. On your way to the lake, you will take a visit to L’Esperance Orphanage in Kigarama village where you will meet orphans that are being helped by donations from different organizations and also from tourists. You will arrive at the lodge in the evening, relax as you wait for dinner and overnight say.

Day 7: Transfer to Gisenyi

After relaxed morning breakfast, you will start your journey to Gisenyi town. Gisenyi town offers you beautiful and stunning views of Lake Kivu and it’s the best place to relax while enjoying the freshwater cool breeze. Upon arrival, you will go for lunch and in the afternoon, you will go for a boat cruise on Lake Kivu. In the evening you will proceed to your lodge, check-in, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 8: Transfer to Musanze – Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village

In the morning wake up to a delicious breakfast and then check out of the lodge for a transfer to Musanze / Ruhengeri town. Getting to this town takes you 2 – 3 hours and upon reaching, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village where you will meet local people who will entertain you with Rwanda’s traditional dances, culture, and way of life. After the visit, you will have some lunch then proceed to your hotel for check-in, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 9: Gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park

Today is a highlight of your 14 days adventure safari Rwanda! Wake up very early in the morning for breakfast, pack all you need for gorilla trekking and meet up with your driver for a transfer to the park headquarters in Kinigi where you will have a briefing from the park rangers about gorillas trekking. During the briefing, you are informed about the dos and don’ts of gorilla tracking. Gorilla trekking experience is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. In groups of 8, the ranger will lead you into the jungle to look for mountain gorillas. The trekking gets you moving up and down the rugged terrain for about 2 to several hours depending on the location of these primates until you finally meet these giant apes that you will enjoy doing their daily activities for a maximum of one hour while taking photos and recording videos. After the activity, you will pass by the park headquarters for your gorilla trekking certificate and later to the lodge for lunch, relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 10: Hiking mountain Bisoke

After morning breakfast, get your packed lunch and meet your driver-guide to transfer you to the park headquarters for a briefing about hiking. After the briefing, you will match to the starting point get a hiking stick and meet the ranger to lead you in the hike. During hiking, you will come across different wildlife among which include primates, mammals, and birds. At the top of the mountain, you will have great views of the surrounding mountains, forest, and the national park. You will descend the mountain get back to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 11: Transfer back to Kigali and Akagera national park

After morning breakfast, you will start on your journey to Kigali where you will have a stopover for lunch and after a transfer to Akagera national park. On your way, you will pass through the country’s phenomenal landscape which will give you beautiful views of the country and also the lifestyle of the local people. When you reach Akagera national park, you will go for a short game drive around Lake Ihema which is the biggest lake in the park. Get an opportunity to see animals like buffaloes, elephants, hippos, crocodiles, zebras, and much more. Proceed to your lodge for check-in, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 12: Morning game drive and boat cruise on Lake Ihema

After morning breakfast, you will meet your driver to take you to the northern sector of the park for a morning game drive to search for animals that live in the park. The animals to look out for include lions, elephants, rhinos, buffaloes, topis, zebras, cape elands, impalas, and much more though it’s not a guarantee that you will see all the park animals because some are nocturnal and can be seen in the night. After the game drive, you will return to your lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, you will go for a boat ride on Lake Ihema which will give you views of the surrounding areas, hills as well as swamps. Expect to see water animals like hippos, crocodiles, and water birds like the African fish eagle as well as the rare shoebill. You will later return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 13: Nature walk and transfer back to Kigali

After relaxed morning breakfast, you will go for a nature walk in the park to look out for different bird species before starting on your journey back to Kigali city. You will have your lunch in Kigali city. Proceed to check-in at your booked hotel and spend the rest of the day relaxing dinner, and overnight stay.
