Day 1: Pickup and Transfer to Lake Kivu

On arrival to Kigali airport, meet our company representative and guide to start your 5 days gorilla trek and mount Nyiragongo hiking safari experience in Virunga national park DR Congo. The drive to Virunga national park is about 5 hours however you will have a stop-over at lake Kivu for a 30 minutes boat cruise before heading to Goma to clear with DR Congo immigration office. The journey looks long but rewarding with great encounters of beautiful views of the rolling hills and green vegetations. You will arrive in the evening, check in and get ready for gorilla trekking experience the following day.

Day 2:  Gorilla Trekking in Virunga

After breakfast, meet your driver and head to the park headquarters to join other trackers for briefing and allocation of gorilla families. Briefing session and verification of gorilla permits and other relevant documents takes about 30 minutes.

Start your trek into the deep jungles of Virunga forest in search for mountain gorillas in their natural habitat with a help of a professional ranger guide. Besides meeting the gentle primates, this exercise is so rewarding and exciting as you may met a number of bird species and other primates such as the vervet monkeys, Lhoest monkeys among others

Upon finding the mountain gorillas, you will be given a full hour to take as many photos as possible as you watch them feed, play and interact with each other! you can as you watch them play, feed and interact with each other. After the tracking, descend and head to the lodge for relaxation and lunch.

Day 3: Mount Nyiragongo Hike

Wake up and take cup of coffee. Drive to Kibati patrol post to meet other hikers for a quick briefing. Later start your trail to hike to the peak of Nyiragongo volcano. This journey is approximately 5-6 hours depending on the speed of the slowest person in the group. Upon arrival to the summit, take photos and enjoy the magnificent views of the volcano before dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day 4: Descend mount Nyiragongo and transfer to Lake Kivu

After having a very heavy breakfast in the morning, descend Mount Nyiragongo to Kibati patrol post while enjoying the beautiful views of the scattered homesteads beneath the mountain and rolling hills.

After reaching the mountain base, your driver guide will be glad to welcome and transfer you to Lak Kivu with an en route meal.

Day 5: Transfer to Kigali- City Tour

Basing on your flight time, have a morning breakfast and check out at your lodge for Kigali city tour to visit the genocide memorial grounds, learn about thousands of innocent people who were killed and buried in a mass grave. You will still visit some local markets and later go for hot lunch before proceeding to the airport to catch up with your flight to the next destination.
