Accommodation at Nyiragongo volcano in Virunga national park Congo will be in huts that have already been constructed at the top of the mountain. You are advised not to sleep in your own tents, shelters that are against the Virunga national park regulations.

Nyiragongo volcano summit has basic type of accommodation inform of cabins that differ from those at the base of the mountain. The cabins at the summit are made of wood material designed to keep you dry and warm giving you a comfortable sleep at night after a long day hike as well as preparations for the next day tour.

At the summit of Nyiragongo volcano, camping is not allowed and instead hikers have to sleep in cabins. The sleeping arrangements in these cabins is usually 2 hikers in every cabin with 2 separate beds laid on the floor.

These cabins are strategically located giving you stunning views of the rolling mist to the green scenery and beautiful views of Lake Kivu, on the opposite side of the ridge from the crater. While at the summit you are able to see the colossal Shaheru and older volcano surrounded by a small cinder cones all reclaimed by vegetation.

The only building you will see while hiking are the toilets. They are constructed with the same design and they are mainly little wooden huts with a whole on the floor. Some are in good conditions than others.

The porters and guides sleep in their special accommodation built in their own section in the space available at the summit, they do no sleep in the 12 cabins for hikers

Accommodation around Virunga ranges from luxury, mid-range to budge. The lodges in Virunga national park include Bukima Tented Camp, Mikeno Lodge, Kibumba Tented Camp, Tchegera Island Camp and many others.

The accommodation is affordable and only favor only those going to the southern sector of Virunga national park.

It’s recommended for all hikers to make their advance payments for at least the first night during the booking session, then later the following nights. Many hotels ask cash on arrival but they also ask options for credit cards.

On the other hand, hikers who sleep in Mikeno lodge are given a complete hiking package from the lodge and this consists of sleeping materials to be used during the hike as well as food.

For hikers that will use other lodges but not Mikeno lodge, they will have to provide themselves food, sleeping bag and still buy the package at Mikeno lodge at a fee of $100

Remember at Nyiragongo volcano, the hostel type of accommodation is not common here as it is in some other countries like Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya, low budget travelers can be catered for in DR Congo. The hotel fees are the same as that of hotels.
