Safari game drives in Semuliki national park are usually carried out around Tooro Semuliki Game Reserve, where there is a mixture of savanna grassland acacia-combretum woodland scattered with patches of borassus palm forest, extensive swamps near Lake Albert as well as significant belts of riparian woodland towards the main watercourses. Tooro Semuliki game reserve is one of the first areas to be gazetted and in 1926 is when this place was established. Semuliki national park hosts over 441 bird species, of which 66% of the forest birds found in Uganda and 40% is the total species of Uganda and it has about 53 mammal species.

Tooro Semuliki game reserve is found in western parts of Uganda near the Kabarole and Ntoroko districts and covering an area of 542 km2. This reserve is also a home of countless bird species mostly those found in the Congo Region of Africa and some species which can only found in the Albertine Western Rift like the unique shoebill stork. The park has many antelopes mostly the Uganda kobs.

Tooro Semuliki national park has 3 tracks that go through the savannah grassland. The larger savannah elephants and smaller forest are commonly seen, plus Uganda kobs, buffaloes, warthogs, and waterbucks. If you’re lucky, during the day you can also see bush babies and leopards because these animals are normally seen at night on the forest trees. There are morning, afternoon, and night game drives in the wildlife reserve. Night game drive allows you to see the nocturnal species such as the leopards, bush babies, target rat, white-tailed mongoose, and slender mongoose.

Nature walks

Nature walks allow you to see a lot of primate species, wildlife animals, butterflies, plants, and many bird species. Nature walks start from Sempaya gate and take like 2-3 hours to complete and it ends at the sempaya hot springs in the rainforest. You can see primates like blue monkeys, mangabeys, and many mammal species including Leopards, forest buffaloes, pygmy hippos, elephants among others. Bird species like palm nut vultures and honeyguides and about 305 tree species.

Sportfishing

Sportfishing in the Semiliki wildlife reserve gives a  wonderful experience though you have to carry your fishing gadgets. You will experience the thrill of the winding Bundibugyo road through the Rwenzori escarpments.

Community walks

The Batwa people are found around this place and they depend on hunting and fruit gathering. Though currently other ethnic cultural groups have occupied the place and this resulted in intermarriages which have led to cultural exchange. How to reach Semuliki wildlife reserve.

Route 1: you can use Kampala-Fort Portal via Mubende, this route is shorter than route 2 which covering about 180kilomaters and takes like a 4-5 hour drive.

Route 2: or use Kampala-Masaka via Mbarara and Kasese. Covering over 465 kilometers and takes 7-8 hours. It is longer but allows you to see other places along the way like Lake Mburo national park, Queen Elizabeth national park, and others.
