Kinshasa City Province

Kinshasa province is found in the furthest west of DR Congo hence bordering the capital city of Brazzaville which is known as Republic of Congo and this makes them the 2rd pair of capital cities close to each other as it is with Roma and Vatican City which are also neighbors. In the past, Kinshasa was a rural area with a lot of fishing villages however it has currently grown up to be an administrative and full business city with large buildings and investors setting the base in the town. But still the bigger part of Kinshasa is still rural but the urban area is expanding to the greater rate on the western side of the city. Kinshasa is also considered to be the 3rd largest urban area in Africa after Lagos and Cairo.

DR Congo is made up of 26 provinces and Kinshasa is among them. Kinshasa is dominated by the Francophone speakers since DR Congo was colonized by the French. These people also speak Lingala and Kiswahili mainly on the town streets. Franco events are still held in Kinshasa city and some of these are the 14th Francophonie summit held in October 2012 and it gathers a lot of people in the country.  This event is also good for business since the locals get market for their goods and also best for tourism since it is an exposure for the country. Local of the city are called Kinois in French and in English it simply means Kinshashans but the indigenous residents are called Humbu and Teke.

The province is located at Congo River that was in the past called Zire River in the time of Mobutu Sese Seko. Congo River is known as the 2rd longest flowing river after river Nile which pours it waters in various countries like Egypt, Uganda and Rwanda. It is also said to be 2,920 meters long hence becoming the 9th river in the world. Congo River is also known to be world’s deepest river recorded at the depth of 220meters and 720 ft. It is said to be the 2rd largest river in form of the volume of water it pours and it is right after Amazon River.
