Mount Gahinga

Mount Gahinga lies at 3474 m above the sea level and it is the smallest of all the Virunga Volcanoes. The name Gahinga means “Small Pile of Rocks”.  A hiking journey takes you about six hours round-trip, trailing through a Bamboo forest. On a lucky day, you may meet some golden monkeys and other primates during your adventure tour

Mount Muhabura

Mount Muhabura lies at 4127 m above the sea level and is its highest peak is located in Mgahinga national park. Sometimes, this mountain is called Muhavura. This mountain derived its names from Rufumbira word which means “The Guide”. At the summit of this mount, we find a clear lake which is about 36 m wide and provides panoramic views of deep tropical forest of the Virunga conservation area and it’s a good spot to take photos. The hike is about 8 hour’s round trip and covers 12 km. This Mt Muhabura can be accessed through Uganda and Rwanda. Travelers can take a road trip from Kampala, taking Masaka- Mbarara- Kabale- Kisoro highway while from Rwanda, you may fly into Kigali aiport and head to Volcanoes national park to start your hike the following day.

Mount Sabinyo

Mount Sabinyo lies at 3660 m above the sea level and it has second highest peak in Mgahinga gorilla national park. Sabinyo means ‘Old Man’s Teeth’, and it was named so because of the rugged summit which is divided by deep gorges that look like teeth! Travelers are planning for a hike to the summit are advised to be physically fit because it involves walking through a ridge with a final hike having ladders. Once at the top, relax and stretch yourself while standing in three African countries of Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo at the same time. The round-trip journey takes about eight hours covering a stretch of about 14 km.
