Camping In Semuliki National Park.

Camping in Semuliki national park is an amazing experience that you should not miss out on your trip to Semuliki national park and it cannot be found in any other national park of Uganda. Camping in Semuliki national park is carried out at Bumaga campsite owned and arranged by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).

Bumaga campsite is found just 2.5 kilometers from Sempaya hot springs which is a starting point for exploring the park and Semuliki game reserve.  Camping at Semuliki national park gives you a wonderful experience and it is good for tourists who are looking for budget accommodation.

Tourists who are interested in camping in Semuliki national park should bring their camping gear and these include sleeping bags, solar table lamps, tent, and sleeping mat and among others to ensure that you enjoy the experience with no disturbance.

The following are camping gears one should consider as explained below;

Sleeping bag

When camping at Semuliki national, there is no need to sleep on deluxe mattresses but the most important thing is a sleeping bag with a bedsheet, pillow, and blanket.

Mattress

While camping at Semuliki national park, a mattress is not a big deal and if you’re to come with it make sure that you bring a small one that cannot take up a lot of space.

Chairs and tables

Dinning and relaxing during camping usually need tables and chairs if you want to enjoy your camping experience with no disturbance.

Gas tank and burner

You have to carry gas and burner since there is no electricity at the camping site at headquarter, so you will need fire to prepare your meals. A small gas cook is enough, no need to carry the big one.

Frying pans and pots

Frying pans and pots are also important when camping at semuliki national park as you will need to cook.

In addition, no need to carry food like spaghetti because you can buy them at the park headquarters canteen, there is all meals of the day such as breakfast, lunch, and dinner with delicious dishes which includes Iris potatoes, bananas, spaghetti, rice, beans and all type of drinks.

Camping at Semuliki national park allows engaging in many tourist attractions which include;

Nature walks in Semuliki wildlife reserve

Nature walks allow you to know more about the park while seeing different primate species, wildlife animals, butterflies, plants as well as a lot of bird species. Nature walks in the Semuliki national park starts from Sempaya gate which takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete and ends at the sempaya hot springs in the rainforest where there is muddy ground and palm trees. You can also see primates like blue monkeys, mangabeys, and many mammal species including the forest elephants. Leopards, forest buffaloes, pygmy hippos, and over 305 tree species.

Visiting Sempaya hot springs

Hot spring is the most trending activity done in Semuliki National park which attracts most of the Visitors in Semuliki. Guests use these hot springs to boil their materials like eggs, cassava, and banana in the bubbling waters, which leaves them to wonder, how it comes. From here, you can also see the primates like blue monkey.

Bird watching.

Semuliki National Park is one of the best birding areas in Uganda with over 441 bird species. The bird watching in the park is mostly done from Sempaya, to Ntandi around the roadside up to Kurumia trail.  Some of the bird species you can see on your trip to Semuliki national park include the White-throated Blue Swallow, Great blue and Ross’s Turacos, Maxwell’s Black Weaver, Red-rumped Tinkerbird, the African Piculet, Yellow-throated Nicator, Leaf-love, the Swamp Palm Bulbul, the Crested Malimbe, also the Red-bellied Malimbe, Blue-billed malimbe, and among others.

Other activities may include, butterfly watching, community visits, Biking, farm visits and crater lake tours and excursions

Uganda has many national parks, therefore, after visiting Semuliki national park, you can go to Bwindi impenetrable national park for gorilla trekking tours and bird watching. Or you can visit other national parks like Kibale forest national for chimpanzee tracking, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Mburo National Park, and many others.
