Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up from Kampala / Entebbe international airport – Transfer to Mgahinga gorilla national park.

On this day, very early in the morning after you have had your heavy breakfast at your hotel / area of residence in around Kampala / Entebbe or on arrival at Entebbe international airport with an early morning plane latest (0800hrs) you will be warmly met by our company representative who will be your English speaking safari guide, for meet and greet, get your luggage packed in the vehicle, be briefed on your  4 Days Uganda Gorilla trekking – Batwa trail experience and Lake Mutanda and later begin you’re your adventurous road drive to Mgahinga gorilla national park found in the southwestern Uganda across the equator line along the Uganda-Rwanda and Uganda-DR Congo borders. Mgahinga gorilla national park is the smallest national park in Uganda but highly gifted with several natural wonders that will keep you busy with several adventurous activities such as the magical mountain gorilla and golden monkey trekking, Batwa trail experience, volcano hiking, bird watching safaris and Lake Mutanda tour. Thereafter, continue with the road drive to Igongo cultural museum to have refreshments and lunch, visit the museum that will introduce you to the ancient culture of the western region. Afterwards drive straight to the park through areas with great views of the lovely landscape made of terraced farmlands and forested hills of Kigezi highlands which is popularly known as the Switzerland of Africa. Check in at your booked lodge for dinner and an overnight.

Day 2: Mgahinga gorilla national park – Mountain gorilla trekking – Explore Lake Mutanda

Today, wake up very in the morning (0600hrs) to prepare after yourself for the adventurous mountain gorilla trekking safari, pack all your required equipment such as camera, binocular, hat, have breakfast, get your packed lunch from the lodge, meet your safari guide and then drive to drive to the park meeting center to join other guests for the pre-gorilla trekking briefing about the rules and regulations to follow during gorilla trekking, expectations of mountain gorilla trekking experience and how to behave in the presence of the mountain gorillas by the park guide, be allocated a guide and an armed ranger and thereafter begin your guided forest walk to lookout for the magical mountain gorillas under the guidance and help of your park  guide and ranger. While searching for the endangered mountain gorillas, you may have an opportunity to encounter other primate species like L’hoest monkey, black and white colobus monkeys, mammals like bush pigs, golden monkeys plus several bird species and your park guide will be able to give you information about everything that you will meet. Searching for the mountain gorillas may take between 45 minutes to 4 hours depending on where the gorillas are located and your walking speed. When you meet the mountain gorillas, you will stay with them for a maximum of one hour while watching them. So, during the forest walk, you have to keep your camera on standby such that you be able to capture all your great moments with the mountain gorillas. After spending an hour with the endangered mountain gorillas, return to the park information office to receive your certificates, have some refreshments and drive back to your lodge to have full lunch, relax and later go to explore Lake Mutanda with boat riding safari.

Lake Mutanda is the one of the coolest places to chill after gorilla trekking safari and others activities at Mgahinga gorilla national park. While at Lake Mutanda, you will do a canoeing tour using a dugout canoe a companied by a local site guide who will introduce you to the lake’s local life and visit some islands. So, during boat canoeing on Lake Mutanda, you will enjoy the cool fresh breezes from the lake, spot several bird species and if you are a good swimmer, this is the best lake to enjoy more since it is free bilharzia and other dangerous aquatic animals such as crocodiles and hippopotamuses. After the boat canoe safari, visit Kaboko river channel found in the north of lake “behind the scenes” experience of encountering the clawless otters and getting a close interaction with them which is so unforgettable. Therefore, you have to keep your camera on standby to capture all your greet moments with clawless Otters and later, visit Kyangushu Island also called “the skeleton island” which water by the neighboring communities of Lake Mutanda to punish the wrong doers by isolating them to this island till their death and on a clear day, while at this island, you will enjoy the most breathtaking view of the Bunagana-DR Congo border and Bwindi impenetrable national park. Day 3: Mgahinga gorilla national park – Batwa trail experience – Spend your evening relaxing

Wake to have breakfast, meet your safari guide and go to the Batwa pygmy community for Batwa trail experience one of best tribe in Uganda to explore new authentic culture that is not yet contaminated due culture diversity. The Batwa people used to live in forests of Bwindi impenetrable forest and Mgahinga gorilla national park before they were made national parks for wildlife conservation mostly the mountain gorillas and golden monkeys which were getting extinct due to human activities. So, they create this trail as a refraction of their past forest life to preserve it for their future generation, exposing it to other people and as way to earn a living to survive life which they take to unfamiliar to them. The Batwa trail experience tour starts is fully guided the Mutwa guide well dressed in their indigenous wears and will start kneeling down to their god who is known as Biheeko to pray for blessings during the day. The trail will take you way back into the local lifestyle of the Batwa pygmy people before they evicted from the forests as your guide will exhibit to you such as their hunting life and techniques, how to use different plants and roots to make healing medicine, making fire from woods and how to make handcrafts like bamboo cups. After lunch, drive straight to Kampala to your residence or Entebbe international airport.
