Mgahinga gorilla national park is only national park in Uganda where you meet both mountain gorillas and golden monkeys in their natural habitats. Detailed itinerary 

Day 1: Pick up from Kampala / Entebbe international airport – Transfer to Mgahinga gorilla national park

On this first day of your 4 days Uganda gorillas-golden monkey trekking and Lake Mutanda safari after having breakfast when all luggage is ready or on arrival at Entebbe international airport with a morning plane latest (0800hrs) you will meet our company representative who be safari guide throughout the 4 days Uganda gorillas-golden monkey trekking and Lake Mutanda safari for meet and greet, be briefed about your 4 days Uganda gorillas-golden monkey trekking and Lake Mutanda safari, ensure that you pose all the necessary gear and paper work and later start your drive to Mgahinga gorilla national park found in southwestern. On your way to Mgahinga gorilla national park, you will have stopover at Kayabwe Equator crossing where the earth is divided into two parts (northern and southern parts) to witness the experiment which is done using water on each part of the planet which shows how forces move differently on the side of the planet, take some memorial photos while spreading your legs in both sides of the planet, have a cup of coffee. Thereafter, proceed with your journey to Igongo cultural museum to have lunch, visit the museum which exhibits traditional culture of the western region and how the lifestyle of Ankole people has been hanging overtime and then drive straight to Mgahinga gorilla national park while enjoying the beautiful landscapes of Kigezi highlands which is composed of terraced and forested hills. You will arrive at your booked lodge in the evening to check to freshen yourself, have dinner and an overnight

Day 2: Mgahinga gorilla national park – Mountain gorilla trekking – Batwa Community tour

Rise up very early in the morning to prepare yourself, have heavy breakfast, get your packed lunch from the lodge and meet your safari guide to transfer to the park information office to meet other guests to be briefed about the rules and regulations to follow during mountain gorilla trekking, expectations of gorilla trekking and how to behave in the presence of mountain gorillas, be allotted park guide and an armed ranger and then start your forest walk to search for the mountain gorillas in the natural habitats who is well conversant with trails in the jungle and then start trekking. The time spend while searching for the mountain gorilla but it can take between takes 45 minutes to 4 hours depending several factors search as your walking speed and physical fitness, number of stopovers you make while in the forest and where the mountain gorillas are located.

While searching for the mountain gorillas in Mgahinga gorilla national park, you have an opportunity to encounter other wildlife species which lives in this park such as other primates like l’hoest monkeys, dwarf Galago, black and white colobus monkeys, other mammals like buffaloes, bush pigs, bushbucks, forest elephants plus several bird species like black kite, cape robin chat, speckled mouse bird, double collared sunbird, paradise flycatcher, among others and your pack guide will give information about everything that you will meet. Once you find the mountain gorillas, you will spend one hour with them while following their movements, enjoying their activities like feeding, playing and Mr. silverback silently looking at you, you will be free to take as many photos as you would want and asking questions to your park guide about the mountain gorillas which will make your mountain gorilla trekking safari so interesting. After spending an hour with the mountain gorillas, return to the starting point to get your mountain gorilla trekking certificate, have some refreshments, meet your safari guide and drive back to your lodge to have full lunch, relax and later visit Batwa community to spend some time while interacting with local communities around the park and you will learn how they stay with wildlife without conflicting with them.

The Batwa pygmy people were the Uganda’s traditional forest-dwellers who used to take themselves as “the forest keepers” but about a century ago, due to the need to protect mountain gorillas and other wildlife species in Mgahinga forest, the Batwa pygmy where evicted from the forest and it was made a national park. So, your local community guide will explain to you much about how the Batwa people. Later, return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight.

Day 3: Mgahinga gorilla national park – Golden monkey trekking – Boat cruising to Lake Mutanda

Wake very early in the morning to have your heavy breakfast, get your packed snacks, meet your safari guide and transfer to the park information offices for a briefing on the dos and dots to follow during the forest walk while search for the golden monkeys one of the most endangered primates in Africa. After briefing, you will be allocated a park guide, an armed ranger and then start your forest walk to search for the golden monkey family that is allocated to you.  Golden monkey tracking can take between 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on the movements and location of the golden monkey family that is allocated to you.  While searching for the golden monkeys, you may encounter some other wildlife species such as forest elephants, other primates and several bird species. When you meet your allocated golden monkey family, you will be spend a maximum of one hour while following them in their natural environment, seeing them as they are jumping from one tree branch to another and others feeding, you will be free to take as many photos as you would want to keep your great moments while with golden monkeys. Later, return to the park starting point to meet your safari guide and drive back to your lodge to have lunch, relax and later go for Lake Mutanda tour with a boat cruise.

Lake Mutanda is the best place to relax after mountain gorilla trekking and others activities at Mgahinga gorilla national park. During your tour to Lake Mutanda, you will do a boat canoeing tour with a dugout canoe with your local guide that will introduce you to the lake’s local life and exploring several fascinating islands. After the boat canoe safari on Lake Mutanda, go for Otter Viewing Experience also known as “behind the scenes” at the Kaboko river channel found in the north of Lake Mutanda where you will meet the clawless otters and get an up-close interaction with the clawless Otter which is so unforgettable. Therefore, you have to keep your camera on standby to capture all your greet moments with clawless Otters. Later, visit Kyangushu Island Tour also known as “the skeleton island” the burial place of Kyangushu and the largest island on Lake Mutanda. While at this Island on a clear day, you will enjoy the most breathtaking view of the Bunagana-DR Congo border and Bwindi impenetrable national park. Thereafter, return to your accommodation place for dinner and an overnight.

Wake very early in the morning to pack your bags, have them packed in your vehicle, have breakfast and check out of your lodge, meet your safari guide and start your drive back to your hotel or place of residence in Kampala or Entebbe international airport to prepare for your return flight. On your way back to Kampala or Entebbe international airport, you will have a stopover at Igongo cultural center to have lunch and then proceed with your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe international airport.
