Day 1: Pickup- Kigali city tour and Transfer to Virunga

Meet our company representative and your guide driver for briefing session regarding your safari to Virunga. You will start your day with a city tour to Kigali to visit the memorial genocide center and some local food markets. Later start your journey to Democratic Republic of Congo through Goma with an en route meal. The journey takes about 6 hours including the time at the border to clear with Congo immigration office.

On arrival to the park, check in, relax as you prepare yourself for gorilla trekking the following day, have dinner and overnight stay at your booked lodge.

Day 2: Tracking gorillas and Community walk

Start your day with a cup of African coffee and later drive to the park with your gadgets and other necessities such as binoculars, camera, passport, permit and water bottles. You are highly advised to put on long-sleeved shirt and a pair of trousers and nice hiking shoes.  You will then have a briefing session by an expert and knowledgeable park ranger who will inform you on acceptable behaviors while in the Jungle.

Start your trail into the forest while being led by a ranger guide. Expect to meet other forest residents during trekking like birds, other primates, plants among others. On meeting the mountain gorillas, you will be allowed to spend a full hour with them; watch them play, feed and interact with family members. You may take as many photos as possible before returning from the forest. Drive back to the lodge for lunch and get ready for a community walk in the evening. Dinner and overnight stay at

Day 3: Guided nature walk – Departure

On this day, you will have breakfast and later go for two hours guided nature walk that introduces you to beautiful sceneries and unique plant species. Return to your lodge for check out and start your journey back to Kigali with an en route meal; arriving in evening hours to Kigali for an airport drop off to catch up with your flight to the next destination.

Best time to visit Virunga for gorilla trekking Safari in Congo

Gorilla trekking in Congo is done throughout the year but the best time to trek gorillas in the dry season from June to September and December to February when the walking trails are dry and hiking is easy unlike in march to May and September to November when there is rainy season and the trails are wet making gorilla trekking harder but this time is good for game viewing because it’s the green season.
