3 days Lake Mburo safari takes you to the smallest savannah national park in Uganda to explore some of most Africa’s famous wildlife species both mammals and birds such as Zebras, Giraffes, Caped buffaloes, Leopards, spotted hyenas, Impalas, some primates, Warthogs, hippopotamuses, bush pigs, crocodiles, waterbucks, reedbucks, Eland, sitatunga, side-striped jackals, white-tailed mongoose, otters,  among others. This particular wildlife safari to Lake Mburo national involves wildlife sighting game drives, boat cruise safari on Lake Mburo, guided nature walk safari and horseback riding in the jungle. This safari is excellent for a family, couple, and friends who want to spend a weekend in the wilderness.

Lake Mburo National Park is situated about 240 km from Kampala across the equator imaginary line along the Masaka – Mbarara Road. Lake Mburo national park is the nearest national park of Uganda to Kampala and Entebbe international airport than any other national park in the country. The park is made of the rolling hills, rocky outcrops, savannah grassland, acacia woodlands, valleys, lakes and swamps which makes an ideal habitat to several wildlife species and a hideout for relaxation from the noisy city.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pickup from Kampala/Entebbe – Drive to Lake Mburo National Park – Evening and night game drive

Briefing will be done the previous day for this 3 Days Lake Mburo Safari so, this day early in the morning, our safari guide will meet you at your hotel or residence in Kampala / Entebbe for a meet and greet and then start your journey to Lake Mburo National Park in the western Uganda south of the equator. You will have a stopover at Kayabwe equator one of the most and well known landmarks in the world to see an amazing water experiment at both sides of the world, take some memorial photos when one leg is standing in the northern hemisphere and another one in the southern hemisphere and then proceed with your drive to through several stretches of papyrus swamps, several farms of the long horned Ankole cattle. Drive to Igongo cultural museum to have lunch and refreshments, visit the great museum which is one of the Uganda’s richest heritage with history and traditions of the Ankole people and southwest Uganda that will take you centuries back about the life of the Ankole people. After having lunch and visiting the museum, drive to the park to check in at your booked lodge to spend your afternoon relaxing while preparing for your evening and night wildlife sighting game drives where you will spot several wildlife species such as African caped Buffaloes, Giraffes, high concentration of Zebras, Warthogs, Elands, Impalas, and some primate species, Leopard, among others plus a variety of bird species. Lake Mburo is one of the best savannah national parks in Uganda for a successful night game drives to search for nocturnal wildlife species in the park such as Porcupine, the illusive leopard, white tailed mongoose, Bush babies among others. Drive back to your accommodation to have dinner and an overnight

Day 2: Lake Mburo national Park – Morning Game drive – Afternoon Boat cruise – Evening nature walk

Wake up early enough to be served breakfast as you prepare for an early morning wildlife sighting game drive through the park. Lake Mburo national park is gifted with several wildlife species both mammals and birds such as Elands, Buffaloes, Zebras, Giraffes, Warthogs, Water bucks, Impalas, Topis, some primates like olive baboons, the illusive leopard, spotted hyenas among others. The park has others features to look at while doing a game drive such as the alluring beautiful sceneries, the parent rocks and some lakes. During the morning game drive, you may have a chance to spot some nocturnal species and predators like hyenas, leopards and jackals. After the morning game drive, return to your accommodation to have lunch, refreshments and relaxation and later drive to Lake Mburo for an afternoon boat cruise safari where you will spot several water mammals like Hippopotamuses, Nile crocodiles, otters and other land mammals on the shores of the lake like Zebras, Buffaloes, among others plus countless birds including African grey hornbill, the African fin foot, Common Scimitar bill, Brown Parrot,  fish eagles, Crested Francolin, Nubian Woodpecker, pelicans, papyrus bush strike, shoe bill stork, white winged warbler and many more. After the boat cruise safari on Lake Mburo, have short break and then go for an evening guided nature walk to explore park on feet. Lake Mburo national park is open for the walking safaris when accompanied by UWA ranger guide. The guided nature walk will lead to a salt lick place where many animals such as several antelope species, warthogs, Zebras, caped buffaloes and many others that are attracted to the salty rocks. Later, drive back to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight.

Day 3: Queen Elizabeth national park – 2 hours morning horseback safari – Drive back to Kampala / Entebbe

Wake up early to take breakfast and head for 2 hours’ morning horseback riding in the wilderness one of the most exciting safari to encounter wildlife in the park that will make you to feel part of nature. Lake Mburo national park is the only park in Uganda where Horseback riding safari can be done. It is so interesting to explore the park and mammals since it gives you an opportunity to come closer to the animals such Zebras, several antelope species without them running away you since. While on a horse riding safari, you will have an opportunity to get off the usual park game drive tracks to go deep inside the park to search more mammals and the birds. After your exciting game drive, Lake mburo fishing community where you will have a chance to interact with the local people, explore some of the fish species caught from the lake and later drive back to your lodge to check out and drive back to Kampala/ Entebbe with a stopover at Kayabwe to have lunch, visit some craft shops and then proceed with your journey to your hotel / residence. This will be the end of the 3 Days Lake Mburo Safari in Uganda.
