What mountain gorillas eat in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park? The park is located in south western Uganda Kanungu district covering an area of 321 square kilometers. Gorillas are ground-dwelling predominantly herbivorous apes that leave   in forests, high in mountains while others in lowland areas, it’s said that their DNA is 99% making them next close to human being after chimpanzee. Gorillas’ life span goes up to 40 years, when young they are called infants that’s until 3 years

Endangered Mountain gorillas are the largest living primates found in Bwindi national park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda? Endangered mountain gorillas can also be sighted in Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo. Males between 8 and 12 are called black backs and silverbacks are from 12 years because they develop a silver section of hair over their back and hips. There are over 100,000 western lowland gorillas in the wild and 4000 in the zoo, the eastern gorillas are like 5000 in the wild and 24 in the zoos

Obviously gorillas don’t beat or eat people, but like other wild primates they stay in the forest bush and depend mostly on natural vegetation, bamboo shoots, fruits and stems. They have massive jaw muscles which enables them to chew tough vegetation .Like in humans what a young baby takes is what an infant gorillas takes but what a mature gorilla takes is totally from what humans eat is. The infant Gorillas feed on mother’s milk, ants and other insects. Lowland gorillas prefer a lot of fruits whereas Mature Gorillas eat mainly vegetarian diet e.g. the stems, fruits such as bananas, guava and apple among others unlike in dry season where mountain gorillas feed on seeds and tree barks to get some water.

On a daily basis, an adult male gorilla (silverback) a day eats like 30kg to 34kg of plant where as Mature female adult gorilla fees 18kg to 20kg of food.

For visitors interested in seeing the eating and feeding habits of the gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park will be required to book a gorilla trekking permit to enable them enter the park. The gorilla trekking permit costs 700usd for non-foreign residents and 600usd for foreign residents’ and 250, 000Ugshs for Ugandans and due to Christmas season Uganda Wildlife Authority has put up a promotion

Reduction on gorilla tracking for all visitors. East African Community citizen gorilla tracking permits reduced from UGX 250, 000 to UGX 150,000, Foreigner residents’ gorilla tracking permits reduced from USD 600 to USD 300 and foreign nonresidents’ gorilla tracking permits reduced from USD 700 to USD 400to UGX 100,000
