Reasons why mountain gorillas are poached: Mountain gorillas have a thick fur on the body, the gorillas stay deep in the forest due to threats on their lives like poaching that brings deadly conditions to them and also other dangerous threats.

Remember gorillas are 98% related to humans in DNA. However they face various threats and more especially poaching. Gorillas being so sensitive in the changes that occur in their inhabitants, they always feel uncomfortable with the presence of human’s hence human beings becoming a threat to them.

Cattle herds, collectors of grass and honey, poachers always disturb gorillas. Poachers always set up traps in particular places so as to catch antelopes and they end up catching the endangered mountain gorillas no matter the strict laws in place. In such scenarios, Gorillas end up losing foot or hand or some time hey even die. However, vets sometimes help to remove the traps of the habituated family groups.

Western gorillas are on high risk of being hunted and they are killed for meat by the local community member’s no matter the law of considering it as illegal.

The main reason why local people like killing gorillas is because they raid their fields and destroy them. Deforestation is another threat to forest gorillas. When deforestation takes place, animals are forced out of small forests and they have to go to other isolation places that are not common to them.

George Schaller said poaching is critical for the survival of the eastern gorillas. More so, Forests protecting these endangered mountain gorilla species are still bothered by the logging companies that need timber thus clearing away for cultivation roads are created to transport the timber for the deforested forest.
