Murchison falls National Park is the largest and oldest national park located in northern Uganda in areas of Bulisa, Masindi, Kiryandongo and Nyowa. The park is ruled and controlled by Uganda wildlife authority, the park is a home of 76 mammals and 451 bird species. Murchison falls National Park was first gazette in 1926 but later established as a national park in 1952.

Murchison falls National Park’s culture is unique from any other cultures in Uganda. The park is situated in area of many groups of people. In north eastern area with the Acholis, Banyoro in south and Alur in north western area. These people have different cultural values and beliefs.

The Mubako Communities

The Mubako communities located in the park plains in savannah grassland of Murchison falls national park, they live in grass thatched houses where people gather to escape the midday sun under the shade of a large tree and they have energetic dancers who perform around lodge campfires as the Boomu women’s group offers accommodation. The Mubako people have craft shop which sells carved wooden scriptures and hand woven materials made by local people.

The guides organize village tours where you will see and enjoy the local luo life style, perform at vibrant songs and dances at the camp fire at the local lodge with the sounds of Adungu an instrument made of cowhide and twine. visitors can have great performances from Alur as they use guitar made of cow hide and twine. Boom women’s group

Boomu women’s group is one of the local people one should visit while in Murchison falls national park. These are subsistence farmers from kihaguzi and kigaragara. The group was formed with an aim of reducing poverty and providing an income for members to pay their children’s school fees but it’s now developing and has turned to be a tourism project with accommodation, restaurant, and garden and unique guided tour guide.
