During 1967, volcanoes national park was used as a research center for the late Dian Fossey an American primatologist whose research was mainly on mountain gorillas. Dian Fossey was later murdered by the poachers and her body was found in the cabin. After her death she was buried near the gorilla cemetery located within the park near karisoke research center.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in south western Uganda in the district of kanungu covering an area of 321 sq.km. The park is managed by Uganda wildlife authority and was first gazette as a national park in 1991. The park shelters half of the endangered mountain gorillas, it’s also rich in plants and animal species. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a home to 350 bird species, 120 mammals, 1000 plant species, 163 tree species, 104 ferns as well as 220 butterflies.
