Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is under UNESCO world heritage site list, it is well known for its ecosystem and habituating world’s most mountain gorilla population and for Mgahinga it has mountain gorillas but it not yet recognized by UNESCO. Bwindi is found in southwestern regions of Uganda, Kanungu, Kisoro and Kabale while Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is found in the edges of southwester regions of Uganda and that is Kisoro district alone and also in some parts of Virunga ranges that are in-between Uganda, Rwanda and Congo.

Bwindi alone habits over 400 gorilla individuals thus becoming the biggest gorilla destination with half of the total gorilla individuals in the world while Mgahinga has few mountain gorilla individuals of about 80 gorilla individuals.  Therefore, Bwindi has the largest gorilla families of almost 40 as in total while Mgahinga doesn’t have. With the largest number of gorillas and gorilla families, tourists opt for Bwindi rather than Mgahinga.19 gorilla families are being habituated in Bwindi currently while Mgahinga is habituating only one gorilla family and therefore when gorilla trekking, Bwindi is the best option.

Gorilla families in Bwindi are in four sectors that is, Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo and Rushaga while Mgahinga has only one gorilla family. The sectors in Bwindi have gorilla families that tourists can trek.it is easy to book gorilla permits are somehow cheaper if compared to Mgahinga since it has one sector.

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Park catches eyes of many travelers because gorilla permits available in a day are mob if compared to Mgahinga which interests few gorilla trekkers.

Bwindi Park has as many accommodation varieties starting with luxury to midrange to basic to budget while Mgahinga has few accommodations with most lodges in Kisoro town.

Bwindi is easily accessed from Queen Elizabeth and it can combine both wildlife safari and gorilla tour while Mgahinga is very far.

Bwindi and Mgahinga are easily accessed through road and air and it takes 8-10 hours when you use road transport which has tarmacked and marram roads. When you use air means, you can use charter flights with Aerolink or fly Uganda. It takes you 2 hours from Kajansi or Entebbe to kihihi or Kisoro airstrips. Also, both parks can be accessed from Kigali International Airport in Rwanda and after transported to Mgahinga or Bwindi and it takes you 4 hours to use the road via Cyanika or Katuna border points.
