Birds In Mount Elgon National Park- The park is located in Eastern Uganda and blessed with a lot of tourist attractions which include over 300 bird species, monkeys, stunning rock formations, hot springs, Jackson’s pool, caves, waterfalls, bamboo forests, flowers, vegetation, rare plant and tree species and it is the largest mountain caldera worldwide.

Mount Elgon National Park hosts over 300 birds, of which 40 bird species are restricted in the park. 56 of the 87 Afrotropical highland biome species live here, particularly the Tinkerbird, Moustached Green, Moorland Francolin, and Alpine Chat. These are Mount Elgon bird species whose Ugandan range is limited in the park include the Jackson’s Francolin, Tacazze Sunbird Black-collared Apali, and the Black-shouldered Kite. Mount Elgon is among the best few places in Uganda where you can spot endangered Lammergeyer, soaring up the caldera and Suam Gorge.

Birds in Mount Elgon has different areas where bird species can be spotted like the Kapkwai Forest Exploration Center with excellent birding opportunities, the center is found within the Mount Elgon National Park, bird species that one can see while on a birding trip to Mountain Elgon include  African Blue Fly-catcher, the African Goshawk, Chubb’s Cisticola, Tacazze, White-chinned Prinia, Chinspot Batis, Mackinnon’s Fiscal, Dohertys and Luhders Bush-shrikes, Cinnamon Bee Eater, Moustached Tinkerbird, Hartloub`s Turaco, Baglafecht Weaver among other bird species.

Walks to the fall

Walks to the fall tend to be muddy but these local trails offer you beautiful views of the area. While on your way to the bottom of all three levels of waterfalls, you have to be accompanied by a local guide as It is possible to walk off on your own, this local guide will help you explain the flora and fauna as well as negotiate the passage through private property.

Forest walks

Forest walks are among the best experiences that one who visited  Mountain Elgon National Park will never forget, as it allows you to explore more about the park, Centre nearby, though you need to pay the national park fees for this activity.

Coffee Tours

You can also combine coffee tours around Sipi and get to know how the all coffee process at a nearby family farm. You will pick the coffee berries, deshell, and grind them with a traditional mortar and pestle, and roast them on an open fire after do not forget to test a cup of Arabica coffee.
