The park was established in 1993 making it one of the newest national parks in Uganda, the park size is 220 sq. km. Semuliki national park is the home of over 400 bird species, 53 mammals, 8 primates, and 300 butterflies. Semuliki national park lies on the borders of Uganda and the democratic republic of Congo in the Albertine rift valley. The park has got River Semuliki and River Lamia which acts as water drinking places for animals in dry seasons.

Semuliki is blessed with so many birds making it the best birding destination in Uganda. Birds in Semiliki include lemon bellied crombec, red-bellied malimbe, blue-billed malimbe, swamp palm bulbul, leaf love, Congo serpent eagle, long-tailed hawk, Nkulengu rail, Ituri batis, lyre tailed honeyguide, red-billed helmet, dwarf hornbill, African jacana, white-throated blue swallow among others. To carry out birding visitors will be required to pay a fee of USD 30 for foreign residents and foreign nonresidents while east African citizens will pay UGX30, 000

There are necessary things you should miss while carrying out birding and these are clear cameras fully charged, binoculars, optics, field bag, field guide book, water bottles, rain gears, hiking shoes, hats, insect repellents among others.

Best time to go for birding tour in Semuliki National Park:

The best time to go for birding in Murchison falls national park is all year round although the best season is from February to April and in June to September for which they are the best months for the fruiting season, the food is much available for birds and many birds are available to stop during this season. The migratory birds in Semiliki National Park are seen in the forest starting from November to April and from December to February of which these months have the least rainfall while April, May, September, and October have heavy rainfall making hiking trails slippery and also limits on bird watching
