Detailed itinerary 

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to volcanoes national park

On arrival at Kigali international airport, you will be welcomed by a driver guide from Africa adventure vacations who will brief you about the safari and thereafter drive you to Kigali for a city tour. During the city tour, you will visit many places among which include the Kigali city genocide memorial site where victims of the 1994 Rwanda genocide were laid to rest, art galleries, Kirimonko the largest market in the city among others. After the city tour, you will start on your journey to volcanoes national park which takes you a 2 – 3 hours’ drive. On reaching Musanze you will continue to the lodge for check-in, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 2 and 3: Gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park

After early morning breakfast, you will get your packed lunch and meet your driver-guide ready for a transfer to the park headquarters at Kinigi. At the park headquarters, you will be briefed about the rules and regulations of the gorilla trekking activity. After the briefing, you will be grouped based on different factors among which include age, physical fitness among others, given a gorilla family to trek, and a ranger guide to lead you into the forest in search of these primates. Hiking up and down the national park looking for mountain gorillas might take you 1 to 7 hours depending on their movement and the speed you are tracking. After meeting the gorillas you will trek back to the starting point meet your driver for a transfer back to your lodge for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Golden monkey trekking in volcanoes national park

After early morning breakfast, you will go through the same procedures as those of previous days of gorilla trekking. Golden monkey trekking takes 2 to 4 hours and on meeting these primates you will be given an hour to spend with them after which return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon you can opt for a cultural tour to Iby’iwacu village where you will interact with local people among which include ex poachers who will entertain you with local dances, you will get to know about how they go about their day to day life, taste their local beer made from banana and also local dishes. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Departure

You will wake up to an early morning breakfast after which meet your driver-guide for a transfer back to Kigali city. On reaching Kigali city you will go for lunch after do a city tour where you will visit art galleries for souvenirs, Kimironko the largest market in the city, and interact with local vendors, and the Kigali genocide memorial Centre where you will see pictures of victims of the 1994 Rwanda genocide among others. After the city tour, you will be dropped off at any place or of your convenience in the city of Kigali international airport to end your 5 days Rwanda gorillas and golden monkey safari
