During this safari, you will begin with the Kigali city tour which takes you through one of the cleanest cities in Africa. And also spend time in volcanoes national park with endangered mountain gorillas, golden monkey and do a cultural tour where you will interact with local people. You will also take a visit to lake Ruhondo and Burera which are twin lakes in Rwanda.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to volcanoes national park

Upon arrival at Kigali international airport on the first day of your 4 days Rwanda gorillas and golden monkey safari, you will be welcomed by our safari English-speaking guide who will brief you about the journey and then transfer you to Kigali for a city tour. During the city tour, you will visit interesting places such as the Kigali genocide memorial center where victims of the 1994 genocide were laid to rest, Kimironko the largest market in the city, art centers like the Inema art gallery, and others. After the city tour, you will get a restaurant for lunch and later transfer to volcanoes national park about 2 – 3 hours’ drive in the northwestern part of Rwanda. On your way to volcanoes national park, you will have beautiful views of the beautiful scenery, rolling hills, terraced farmlands, smiling people among others, and upon arrival, you will proceed and check-in at your lodge for evening relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park

On your second day of 4 days Rwanda gorillas and golden monkey safari, you will wake up early in the morning and your breakfast, get your packed lunch and meet your driver for a transfer to Kinigi park headquarters for a briefing about the rules and regulations to follow during the gorilla trekking activity. Gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park is done by 8 people per family and each day 80 permits are issued out. Each group is led by a ranger guide who knows well the trails in the forest. Trekking starts immediately after briefing and 30 minutes to 7 hours depending on the location of the gorillas and once you meet them you will be given a maximum of 1 hour to spend with them in their natural environment which allows you to know some of their behaviors, habits, watch them go about their daily activities, take photos and record videos. During the trekking, you will meet some of the park primates, mammals, birds, plants, and tree species. After spending time with these giant primates, you wilt trek back to the starting point where you will meet your driver-guide ready to drive you to the park headquarters for your trekking certificate and then transfer to the lodge for evening relaxation, dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and cultural tour

On this day you will wake up for an early morning breakfast after which meet your driver to transfer you to the park headquarters for a briefing about golden monkey trekking, the rules and regulation, dos and don’ts during the trekking. After the briefing, you will be grouped and allocated a gorilla family to trek after which you will be given a ranger guide who will lead you into the forest t search for these primates. During golden monkey trekking, you will come across some of the park’s mammals, primates, birds, plants, and tree species as you follow the trails of the leftover bamboo shoots. Once you meet the golden monkeys you will be allowed to spend an hour with them in their natural habitats and with that one hour you will learn about their behaviors and habits, you will watch them do some of their daily activities, take photos, and record videos. After an hour with golden monkeys, you will trek back to the starting point, meet your driver-guide for a transfer back to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will meet your driver guide to driving you to Iby’iwacu cultural village for a cultural tour which is located near volcanoes national park. During the cultural tour, you will get a chance to interact with the local people and by this, you will know about their lifestyle, way of living, tradition, culture, taste their local foods, taste local beer made from bananas, get entertained by women who perform traditional dances, songs, drama among others. After the Iby’iwacu cultural tour, you will meet your driver and transfer back to your lodge for evening relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 4: Twin lakes tour and departure to Kigali

After morning breakfast on the last day of your safari, you will meet up with your driver-guide for a drive to twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo located at the base of mountain Sabyinyo, Bisoke, Gahinga, and Muhabura. While at these twin lakes you will have stunning views of mountains, hills, terraced farmlands, fishermen, relax and feel the cool breeze. After the visit to twin lakes, you will drive back to your lodge for lunch. after lunch, you will check out the lodge and meet your driver for a transfer to Kigali international airport or at a place of your convenience to end your 4 days Rwanda gorillas and golden monkey safari
