Day 1: Transfer to Murchison falls national park – Ziwa rhino sanctuary – hike to the top of the falls

On the first day of your 2 days Murchison falls national park safari you will be picked by our English safari-speaking guide from your hotel at around 6:00 and start on your journey to Murchison falls national park in the northwest of Uganda. On your way from Kampala to Murchison falls national park you will have a stopover at Ziwa rhino sanctuary which is a 3 hour’s drive from Kampala city. On arrival at Ziwa rhino sanctuary you will check in and you will be led by a ranger guide on a rhino trek where you will get an opportunity of meeting rhinos face to face. Ziwa rhino sanctuary is the only place where you can meet rhinos in Uganda. After rhino trekking, you will then drive to Masindi and have some lunch at Kabalega resort after which drive to Murchison falls national park. When you reach Murchison falls you will check-in into the national park and then proceed to cross the river Nile by a ferry. You will cross to the Paraa side of the river where you will have an opportunity of seeing different animals including the big 4 – leopards, lions, elephants, and buffaloes. You will check in your lodge, have some relaxation as you wait for the afternoon boat cruise
The boat cruise in Murchison falls takes you up to the bottom of the falls with great views of water animals like the Nile crocodile and hippos as well as water birds. You will see animals like elephants, antelopes, and buffaloes on the lake shores drinking water. When you reach the bottom of the falls you will have a 45 minutes hike to the bottom of the falls which will expose you to Mother Nature’s wonderous gorge knowns as the devil’s cauldron. At the top of the falls, you will also see masses of water squeezing through the narrow gorge of about 6 meters with too much pressure that makes the ground tremble with vibrations. Your driver-guide will pick you from the top of the falls and will drive you to cross the river by the ferry to Fort Murchison lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning game drive and transfer to Kampala

You will wake up for a morning breakfast at Fort Murchison lodge and then meet your driver for a morning game drive in the park through savannah vegetation near lake Albert. You will see so many animals in the park among which include lions, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, leopards if you are lucky, giraffes, bushbucks, warthogs, Jackson’s hartebeests, hippos, different bird species. Game drive. It’s one of the popular activities done at Murchison falls national park. The gam drives can be done early in the morning at 6:30 am or evening. The game drive takes a maximum of 3 hours where you get to see the hippos, warthogs, hyenas, giraffes, elephants, Uganda kobs, lions, leopards, bushbucks, oribi among others. You can as well get a chance and different bird species.

Bird watching. Murchison falls is a habitant of 450 bird species including Albert Nile rift endemic birds’ water birds’ and savannah birds and is among Uganda’s best birding spots while enjoying the views of the landscape of River Nile forest, land scape and spot a variety of bird species. Some of the birds include gray crowned, giant kingfisher, giant kingfisher, giant heron, marabou stork, malachite king fishers, pied giant malachite, francolin, grey heron, woodpecker, Denham bustard,  geese, ducks and much more.

Guides are available to lead you to the best fishing spots though a fish permit is required and it goes for $50 and per day and $150 for four days.

Boat cruise on River Nile. It’s among the entertaining activities done in the park. Visitors come to Murchison falls national park with an aim of seeing strongest waterfall in the world when you do boat cruise you expect to see birds at the albert delta and hike to the top of the falls. And it’s a best place to take beautiful pictures of animals as the boat gets closer to these animals like the crocodile and the hippos. Getting to the bottom of the falls is a great experience even though the boat doesn’t get closer the falls.

Nature walks and hiking. This gives you a chance to explore the park on foot with an experienced guide and an armed park ranger to protect you from dangerous wild animals. The nature walks are carried out in areas like Kaniyo Pabidi and Rabongo forests which provide sightings of primates and birds.
