Which Are The Twin Lakes In Rwanda?

Lake Burera and Lake Ruhondo are the famous twin lakes found in Rwanda. These lakes are situated in the area between Musanza previously known as Ruhengeri and the border with Rwanda. Lake Burera and Ruhondo provided beautiful sceneries to the visitors and they received waters from rivers coming from Ugandan land. The lakes are engulfed by steep hills that offer shelters to the blue colored water of the lake. It is interesting to see this place with visitors taking photos and when the weather is clear, then you will even get clear views of Virunga Volcanoes upon taking safaris to the twin lakes of Rwanda.

Activities such as bird watching and nature guided walks care possible to these lakes but the fact that the topography surrounding the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhongo is so steep, most of the visitor prefer to drive using their vehicle to the nearby lodge up where they can get clear views of the lakes as they take photos and having a cool breath environment surrounding the lake.

The charming and picturesque Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo together with Rugezi swampy areas are well recognized as birding sites for the visitors.

The lakes of Burera and Ruhondo have got an amazing small island in them which travelers or visitors can visit by taking by a boat safari.  While you reach an island you can stop, stand, and have amazing photo time and incredible sightseeing views. Visitors can combine the boat cruise at the twin lakes with a gorilla trekking safari. After gorilla trekking, you can find relaxation in the afternoon by taking a boat cruise on the twin lakes. Some of the islands are occupied by the local community who are ready to entertain you with their local culture, traditional performances through dance and drama.

The local community surrounds the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo do a lot of community-based tourism tours and visitors can engage in community village tours, agro-tourism tours, engaging in local fishing using the rudimentary told or traditional fishing gears and you can as well decided to visit the lakes and sit as you enjoy the enormous activities taking place at the lake.  Visitors can take the boat cruise on the waters for just sightseeing tours.

There are other lakes in Rwanda tar are interesting and thrilling to visit and these include Lake Mugese, Lake Muhazi, Rweru, Lake Cohola, and several rivers including river Ruhwa, Sebeya, Mukarara among others. All these water bodies are efficient and excellent for bird-watching safaris.
