What to do in Murchison falls national park: Murchison falls National Park is located in north western Uganda, it’s in four districts namely Masindi, Nyowa, Bulisa and Kiryandongo offering several activities such as Sport fishing, Boat cruise on River Nile, Nature walks and hiking, Cultural tours, Bird watching and Game drive. The park is also known as Kabalega National Park named after the Omukama of Bunyoro Kabalega by Idi Amin in 1970s though after Idi Amin’s regime the park was again changed to Murchison falls National Part. Murchison falls National Park is managed by Uganda Wildlife Authority. The land of the park covers   of 3893 square kilometers.

Murchison falls was gazatted in 1926 as a game reserve and was declared in 1952 a national park after becoming famous through the film ”The African queen” which was filmed on River Nile and Lake Albert where the park is now. The park has got so many attractions like the Nile River popularly known as the longest river in the world , Pakwach bridge, Karuma falls, Uhuru falls, Paraa the home of hippos, Budongo forest, Murchison fall which are the strongest water falls in the world, Buligi game area, animals which are 800 primates and 76 mammals and 450 species of birds.

The following are the things to do while at Murchison falls national park.

Game drive.

It’s one of the popular activities done at Murchison falls national park. The game drives can be done early in the morning at 6:30 am or evening. The game drive takes a maximum of 3 hours where you get to see the hippos, warthogs, hyenas, giraffes, elephants, Uganda kobs, lions, leopards, bushbucks, oribi among others. You can as well get a chance and different bird species.

Bird watching.

Murchison falls is a habitant of 450 bird species including Albert Nile rift endemic birds’ water birds’ and savannah birds and is among Uganda’s best birding spots while enjoying the views of the landscape of River Nile forest, land scape and spot a variety of bird species. Some of the birds include gray crowned, giant kingfisher, giant kingfisher, giant heron, marabou stork, malachite king fishers, pied giant malachite, francolin, grey heron, woodpecker, Denham bustard,  geese, ducks and much more.

Sport fishing.

This activity is carried out in designated areas along river nil end it’s done by catch and realize method making it interesting so you shouldn’t miss it out. There are great opportunities to land a large Nile perch, cat fish, tiger fish, tilapia and so much more. The recorded largest Nile perch was 113 kgs and the largest cat- fish was 45kgs got near Nyamusika cliffs. Guides are available to lead you to the best fishing spots though a fish permit is required and it goes for $50 and per day and $150 for four days.

Boat cruise on River Nile.

It’s among the entertaining activities done in the park. Visitors come to Murchison falls national park with an aim of seeing strongest waterfall in the world when you do boat cruise you expect to see birds at the albert delta and hike to the top of the falls. And it’s a best place to take beautiful pictures of animals as the boat gets closer to these animals like the crocodile and the hippos. Getting to the bottom of the falls is a great experience even though the boat doesn’t get closer the falls.

Nature walks and hiking.

This gives you a chance to explore the park on foot with an experienced guide and an armed park ranger to protect you from dangerous wild animals. The nature walks are carried out in areas like Kaniyo Pabidi and Rabongo forests which provide sightings of primates and birds. You can as well hike up to the top of Murchison falls which takes about 45 minutes and can be done by everyone since it’s not steep, this will expose you to mother nature’s wondrous gorge here you will see masses of water trying to squeeze through the narrow gorge of about six meters and then the roars of water as it hits the rocks with thunderous roar.

Cultural tours.

Murchison falls national park offers you cultural tours because there are people who live around the park, its boarded by Bunyoro in the south a, Acholi in the north east and Alur in the north west of the park so you can visit these people which will help you get to learn about their culture, tradition, dress code and visit their homes see how they make crafts and see them perform too
