What is the Weather and climate conditions in Mgahinga national park? Mgahinga’s climate is cold, mild and wet with the highest altitude of 2,227-4,127m or 7,306-13, 540ft,  this thus makes mgahinga one of the coldest destinations in Uganda. The average climate is around 20°C/68°F in the day and 9°C/48°F in the evening. The park climate decrease by 6.5°C for every 1,000m that you try to climb or 3.5°F per 1,000ft. Most tourists like visiting the lower altitude range.

Mgahinga Park is known as a park with cold climate and weather. Mgahinga gorilla National Park is found far in the Southwestern Uganda and is at the elevation of 2227 and 4127 meters thus becoming the coldest safari destinations. During the day, Mgahinga temperatures are 20°C and night and later it drops at 9°C.

Climate and weather of Mgahinga Park keep changing from time to time because of the variation in altitude. After 1000m, temperatures of Mgahinga keep dropping to 6.5°C and most visitors visit the lower elevation of Uganda Safari.

Mgahinga region has no real season that is dry and rain is expected any time. But in January and December there is little rainfall. June and July receive the lowest rainfall. There are only two wet recognizable seasons. That is, September to November and February to May. It is good to pack advised waterproof clothing and hiking shoes.

The highest altitude are the home of giant lobelia and senecio. These altitudes are over 3,000m (9,800ft). When the area is above regular cloud level the rain received is less. It is believed that plant species in Mgahinga are giant because of the climate of the park which allows the plants to keep more water and the temperature is more efficient.

Weather Conditions

Because of rainy season, you are expected to pack well all the materials you desire so as your trip to be interesting. For trekking in Mgahinga you need good waterproof hiking boots, waterproof daypack, rain jacket/poncho, gardening gloves, long sleeved shirts and among others. The highest altitude are the home of giant lobelia and senecio. When at 3000m. Rainy or wet is good for bird lovers in Mgahinga gorilla National Park.

Dry season in Mgahinga Park happens in months of June, July, August and early September then December, January to early February. The average temperature is 20°C during the day and night and later it drops at 9°C. These dry months are good for golden monkey trekking, gorilla trekking and Volcano hiking adventures in Mgahinga. Dry season are famous for low rainfall and activities for safari move smoothly.
