Visit Mount Kadama In Uganda

Mount Kadama is found in the Northeast border of Uganda and Kenya in Karamoja. It stands at an elevation of 3,063 (10,049ft). It is just north of mountain Elgon. Its name was derived from the first explore who called Sailesh Kadama. Mount Kadama was also known as mount Debasien during the colonial period.

Kadama is the second highest volcanic mountain in Karamoja region and its highest peak stands at 3,063 meters and it is called Libo peak. Mountain Kadama is surrounded by 5 tribes that are the pokot, Gishu, Sebei, Karamojong, Tepeth including Kadama. Though Sebei and Pokot are also found in Kenyan parts and they are known as farmers while Tepeth people who live around Mount Moroto are mixed farmers. Another difference between them is that the Pokot and the Sebei people do seummise girls and boys as one of their strong and compulsory cultural beliefs compared to other tribes.

The major crops grown on Mount Kadama are wild tomatoes, maize, beans, and sunflower. Climbing Mount Kadama is the most exciting experience in East Africa with several attractions, a milder climate, lower elevation and it doesn’t require any special skills and equipment to climb it. On your trip to Mount Kadama, you will encounter Uganda’s highland people, beautiful views, and unique sights along the trails, Campsites where you can enjoy the sunset, and sunrise over the planes of Karamoja.

Hiking Mount Kadama is guided by the well-trained local guides and porter are around but on request which costs 15 USD per porter. Also, camping gear, food, and water are included. People around the mountain are majorly agriculturalist and they are living in small settlements.  The campsite is set with front chairs of the sunset and sunrise and the afternoon will be spent exploring a high altitude rain forest and beautiful views.

Getting to Mount Kadama in Uganda.

Mount Kadama is located on the northeast border of Uganda and Kenya in Karamoja region which is about 493.1 kilometers from Kampala the capital city of Uganda. You can use a bus from Kampala to Karamoja in about 8 hours and 40 minutes.

When you finish your trip to the eastern side of Uganda where mountain Kadama is found, you can also plan to visit the western side where you will have a chance to do gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park and get to know more about the remaining few mountain gorillas in World. You will also go to Murchison falls national park and you will do a boat cruise at Nile River where you will see water wildlife animals such as crocodiles, hippos, and a lot of bird species.
