Rwigi is the best gorilla family; situated in the Rushaga sector of Bwindi forest National park in the southern part. Rwigi gorilla group is dominated by Rwigi sliver back who is the head of the family and currently the group has about 6 members but it is believed that it will soon multiply to have more members according to Uganda Wildlife Authority. It is important to note that the Rwigi gorilla family/group broke away from the Kahungye family which is found in the same region/gorilla trekking sector.

How to get to the Rushaga sector in Bwindi to trek the Rwigi Gorilla family?

Rushaga can be accessed by both road and air transport bit of course for luxury gorilla trips,  but since we are planning a luxury gorilla trekking safari in Rushaga then we recommend that you use air transport since it is quicker and so luxurious. The domestic air companies in Uganda include Aero link Uganda limited and fly Uganda. The companies operate both chartered and scheduled flights from Entebbe or Kajjansi airfield to Kisoro Airfield and then with help of our guide you will be transferred to the Rushaga region at your favorite lodge. It is about two hours from Kisoro airstrip to the Rushaga gorilla trekking sector in Bwindi. You need to check early about one hour and 30 minutes before your scheduled or chartered flight at the airport. Visitors can also drive for about 9 hours on the road from Kampala/Entebbe international airport. Though using the road is long, the journey is entertaining and enjoyable as there is a lot to see on your way on the road. Visitors can as well drive from Kigali international airport to cross the Katuna or Cyanika borders of Rwanda and Uganda to access the Rushaga gorilla trekking trail heal of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.
