Rwenzori Mountains In DR. Congo
Rwenzori Mountains are found in between Uganda with Congo. Therefore Virunga National Park is lucky to be sharing on these amazing mountains and you will hike it beginning from this park.
The mountain is located in the northern parts of the park. Mountain Rwenzori is also known as mountain of the moon because of its height which is 5,109m. This mountain inhabits the largest glaciers on the African Continent.
Hiking to Mountain Rwenzori will reward you with amazing views of alpines, bamboo forest, okapis and various bird species such as snow cap. It is recommended that the best time to visit this place is in the months of December to March and June to August.

If you are coming from Uganda, you can cross to DR Congo via the Mpondwe border.
You will be asked to pay around USD 200 for the trekking permit. You may also pay some additional money which is around USD 116 so as to spend a night in the huts of the trail.
The park does not cater for your meals and the gear. It is good you come when prepared. The gear is a universal for many mountain climbers and they include rain gear, hiking boots plus the gear for warming you up.
Those who wish to hike up to Margherita Peak or the nearby summits, you will need to come with your own climbing hardware, ice axes and crampons.
Bivouac gear is also a nice idea. Virunga ranger escorts you and porters are readily available to be hired by climbers or trekkers.
Porters always negotiate with you their prices on the spot but the known price is less than a dollar per kilogram with 15kg as a maximum per porter.
