Mucunguzi Gorilla Family In Rushaga Sector

Mucunguzi gorilla family in Rushaga sector- This is one of the mountain gorilla families located in the Rushaga gorilla trekking sector found in the southern region of the park. Mucunguzi is loosely translated as the savior and this was a sliver back originally from Bweza Group also situated in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park.

When Mucunguzi left the Bweza gorilla family, he formed his own gorilla family which we call now the Mucunguzi gorilla family in the Rushaga sector. Rushaga sector is located in the southern sector of the park with the highest number of habituated gorilla families and it is also where the gorilla habituation experience safaris in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park are conducted.

Origin of Mucugunzi gorilla family

Mucunguzi gorilla family group was formed by the solitary silverback called Mucunguzi hence the calling of the gorilla group Mucunguzi derived from its head. Mucunguzi decided to leave his original gorilla family called Bweza after a disagreement and heave fights that rocked the Bweza gorilla family group. In this gorilla family, Mucunguzi was 3rd in ranks, and eventually, he was chased away from the group and started living a solitary life.

After several years, Mucunguzi attached the Bikingi gorilla family group and opened fighting with the head or dominant silverback of biking and eventually he separated the group and took away some of the members of the Bikingi gorilla family. Most of the individual gorillas that he took were females and then formed his group called Mucunguzi.

As of now, the Mucunguzi gorilla group has got 8 gorilla members of which most are females and one can trek this gorilla family from the Rushaga gorilla trekking sector.
