Yes, the park is found below the snow line though it may become very cold at night so that is why you’re advised to carry warm clothes on your climbing safari in Mountain Elgon. Sometimes you may experience headaches plus other related symptoms around mountain Elgon. Climbing mountain Elgon is done all year round but is best in the dry month between JuneAugust and December-March. Visitors who are planning to visit Mount Elgon for hiking need to reasonably fit, but not much energy and specialized skills are required to reach the highest peak.

Mount Elgon National Park is also located alongside the Ugandan-Kenyan border. It is a water catchment for the river Nzoi that streams to L. Victoria and Turkwel River (Suam River) that flows to L.Turkana.

In 1992 is when Mountain Elgon National Park was established in Uganda and also established in Kenya in I968. It covers an area of 1,279km2 (494 sq. miles). It is found in both Kenya and Uganda. The park is near Mbale city. It is on the coordinates of 01°08′00″N 34°35′00″E. the park is 87 miles on northeast of Lake Victoria.  Mountain Elgon covers an area of 169km2 in Kenya and 1,110km2 in Uganda.

Mount Elgon National Park is 235kilometers from the center of the Kampala region. Since it is a tarmac road so it is accessible. This road will take you from Kampala via Jinja- Mbale town where you head to Mt Elgon and from there you will climb to Kapchorwa. The Mbale Kapchorwa tarmac road enables you to access several trailheads.

The location of Uganda is not like that one for other countries in Africa, however, located on the equator. Uganda is among the countries in Africa which stands at high elevation with more bio-diverse. It has savannahs like other countries on the continent but the difference is, there are mountains, rainforests, Rivers, and Lakes plus jungles. When you’re planning a mountain climbing safari on Elgon first get in touch with your tour operators and know the type of clothes which fits this activity.

The park has got flora and fauna which are more attractive sceneries. Other attractions in the park are caves, waterfalls, hot springs, cliffs, gorges, calderas, mesas, and mountain peaks. Four main areas are explorable and these include vast caves, Kitum cave, Chepnyali, and Mackingeny. These caves are mapped and are explored by tourists and buffaloes and elephants are always seen coming to taste the natural salt at the cave walls.

Mountain Elgon national park also hosts over 300 bird species that one can spot on a birding safari. Bird watching in this park is best the Kapkwai forest exploration center. These are some birds include the rare lammergeyer, African Blue Flycatcher, the African Goshawk, Chubb’s Cisticola, Tacazze, White-chinned Prinia, Chinspot Batis, Mackinnon’s Fiscal, Dohertys and Luhders Bush-shrikes, Cinnamon Bee Eater, Moustached Tinkerbird, Hartloub`s Turaco, Baglafecht Weaver among other bird species.

After visiting Eastern parts of Uganda, you can also plan a visit to Western Uganda and get an opportunity to do gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park where you will explore more about these shy primates or you can go to Murchison falls national park and take a boat cruise on river Nile where you will see various water wildlife animals like hippos, crocodiles and many more or you can do a game drive and view a lot of wildlife animals such as buffaloes, giraffes,  Uganda kob, hippos plus countless bird species. Other national parks include, Lake mburo, Queen Elizabeth, Mgahinga, Kibale forest and Rwenzori national parks
