Gorilla trekking activity gives you a chance to explore Volcanoes National Park by hiking the 5 Virunga Mountains namely Mountain Karisimbi, Mountain Bisoke, Mountain Sabyinyo, Mountain Muhavura and Mountain Gahinga where you will see habituated gorilla families with in the park. Briefing session before tracking

Before carrying out gorilla trekking in Rwanda you have to go through briefing session at the different briefing centers which will guide you on the activity going to take place. During briefing you will be told about rules and regulations of gorilla trekking, the does and don’ts and you will be told how to interact with gorillas when you come across them and briefing helps you know what exactly you should do to have unforgettable experience in the park.

For safety of gorillas in Rwanda, you are assigned a well-trained guide that will take you the safe hiking trails during gorilla trekking in Rwanda. The well trained guide ensures that you are safe from any dangerous animals as you hike to go visit different habituated gorilla families on the slopes of different Virunga mountains in the park. The guides will give you relevant information about endangered mountain gorillas or any other animals in the park

A ranger In Volcanoes

During gorilla trekking activity in Rwanda you are accompanied by a ranger who ensures safety of gorilla trekking in Rwanda. Each gorilla trekking group is accompanied by a well-trained guide and an armed ranger who protects you from dangerous attacks from wild animals during gorilla trekking activity. These rangers carry out regular patrols for safety of gorillas in volcanoes national park they also ensure poachers don’t enter the park and threat tourists or even kill animals.

Security check point at Volcanoes national park

Before accessing volcanoes national park to carry out gorilla trekking in Rwanda. You have to go through the security check point where you will have be checked for any security threats such as knives, deadly weapons, fire arms than can harm other trekkers and animals .

Rules and regulations for Gorilla Trekking In Rwanda

Before taking part on gorilla trekking in Rwanda in volcanoes national park you have to first go for briefing where you will be given rules and regulations to follow while trekking gorillas and remember you must be 15 years and above to get a gorilla trekking permit.

Before starting your gorilla trekking journey you must wash your hands and you are grouped into 8 visitors.

When trekking gorillas you should keep your voices low, don’t litter in the park and when you want to go to the toilet ask the guide to dig you a hole and fill it when finished

When you find gorillas you should keep a distance of 7 meters away, stay tight in your group, keep your voices low, don’t smoke or eat or drink near the gorillas and avoid flash photography when you’re with gorillas.

Please note that mountain gorilla tracking tours can only be done in just four national parks of Volcanoes, Mgahinga, Virunga and Bwindi.
