How to access Kidepo Valley National Park: Kidepo National park is located in northeast Uganda on an area of about 1442 square kilometers in Karamoja province in Kaabong district and is the most isolated national park in Uganda. It has gotten 2 rivers R. Kidepo and R. Narus. Kidepo Valley National Park lies between the borders of Uganda, South Sudan, and Kenya. It has got open tree savannah grassland vegetation.

Kidepo National Park is well known for the following safari activities. Game drives help you see animals like lions, elephants, leopards, cheater, Uganda kob, zebra hyena among others. Birding activities with the park having over 480 bird species i.e. the Vinaceous Dove, Nubian Woodpecker, Mosque Swallow, Scarlet-chested Sunbird, Little Weaver, and Red-cheeked Cordon-bleu. A small permanent water hole at the edge of the camp attracts swallows and a variety of seedeaters including the Yellow-rumped Seedeater, among others. Other activities in the park include hiking and nature walks, cultural visits. The park has got Apoka tourism Centre, Kidepo valley Kanangorok hot spring, Mount Morongule, and Lonyili Mountain

Air transport

It’s the fastest way to access Kidepo Valley National Park using chattered flights from Entebbe International Airport and Kajansi airfield to Apoka airfield which takes about an hour and thirty minutes but costly and even denies you a chance of seeing several attractions in Uganda though it saves you from traveling long journeys.

Road transport

When going to Kidepo Valley National Park there are so many routes to the park

Kampala via Karuma to Gulu to Kitgum to Kidepo Valley National Park which has a distance of 571km taking you up to 10 hours to reach there making it the shortest route, here you can stop over at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary and Karuna falls then Murchison Falls National Park

Kampala via Karuma to Lira-Kotido to Kaabong to Kidepo Valley National Park with a distance of 705km taking you up to 12 hours and it’s the second shortest route it enables you to see Murchison falls national park and Ziwa rhino sanctuary

Kampala-Mbale-Sironko to Moroto-Kotido-Kaabong to Kidepo about 740km taking you 12 hours. This route has so many attractions i.e. the Mabira rainforest, the River Nile at Jinja, and Lake Victoria, you may as well branch off on Mbale Soroti road and go do a hike to Sipi falls in Sironko district. You may explore Matheniko and Bokora wildlife reserve

Kampala via Mbale to Soroti- Moroto to Kotido to Kabong to Kidepo Valley National Park covers a distance of 792km taking you up to 13 hours. It takes the eastern direction from Kampala through Mabira crossing the Nile river so it enables you to see the longest river that’s the Nile, lake Victoria the visitors can also visit Nyero rock in Kumi district
