Gorilla Parks In Uganda, Where Can You Find Mountain Gorillas In Uganda

Bwindi impenetrable National park and Mgahinga gorilla National park is the only parks in Uganda where mountain gorillas can be found. These species are endangered ones.

Gorillla Park is known as a home of mountain gorillas. The gorilla park is situated in the south western regions of Uganda and are split into four gorilla trekking sectors and they include Rushaga, Buhoma, Ruhija and Nkuringo sectors. These sectors are in Bwindi are open for gorilla trekking because they have habituated gorilla families.

When trying to book a gorilla permit for trekking, be sensitive on the gorilla sector you would like to trek from because this affects you lodging or accommodation also the distance from the park headquarters should be valued.

The altitude of gorilla Park of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda is 1,160-2,607 m above the sea level. In 1991, the park was gazetted, after a while, in 1994 it was named as a UNESCO natural world heritage site

The first gorilla family to be habituated in Uganda was habituated in 1993. This gorilla park is located in the southwest at the edge of Rift Valley. The Park is filled with mist and is dated 25,000 years ago thus being the oldest park. The park comprises of 400 species of plants and it is a rainforest of approximately 480 mountain gorillas that make a half of world’s population.

The gorilla park is a home of gorillas and also 130 mammal species, primate species like baboon, chimpanzee, and red tailed monkeys, black colobus monkeys, you will also find antelopes, elephants ,warthogs and many more. The park also inhabits 400 bird species that include 30 Albertine rift valleys.

The gorilla park premises are composed of exciting array of rustic, luxury lodge, restaurants, bandas, and camp sites. You have to discover things like Batwa trails, Bakiga culture with their villages, workshops and among others in the region.

Gorilla Park Uganda also comprises of Mgahinga Gorilla Park that inhabits mountain gorillas. The size of the park is estimated at 33.7km and the park earned its name from Gahinga a local word meaning volcano stones.

This park was gazatted as an animal sanctuary in 1930. The only habituated gorilla family in the park is known as Nyakagezi gorilla family.

You should also visit the Batwa people who stay in the area since they are also the first people to stay in the forest for many years ago before it was established as a world heritage by UNESCO.

Mountain gorillas are always sited on a higher altitude of 2,227m and 4,200m. The dense forest covers the biggest part and the endangered golden monkeys are also inhabited here.

Wildlife is inhabited at Mgahinga Gorilla Park and also culture tours are done in the area plus Batwa trail.

Mgahinga National park is part of Virunga range that is situated at the border of Rwanda, Uganda and Democratic Republican of Congo. The volcanoes of the park cover a lot of ecosystems. Mgahinga National park is a fragment of the Virunga conservation zone linking other parks in the country.

Gorilla park Uganda is visited at convenient time of a traveler and a permit is a must be with requirement. The permit allows you to interact with gorilla family for one hour and it allows you to enjoy the forest of Bwindi and Mgahinga. The costs that incur are ranger/guide fee that takes you through the park, park entry fee

Gorilla permit costs 700USD and the habituation experience costs 1500 USD. The sake of habituation, you are given full four hours to watch mountain gorillas and the training for them to live closely with human beings. Accommodation differ according to the type of lodging you need, you can book a budget, midrange or a luxury lodge. The prices are in between 60 USD – 500 USD.

When you want to travel to the two parks, you may decide to use air transport or road transport.
