Costs of hiking Mount Elgon- Mountain Elgon National Park is among the national parks in Uganda with affordable costs than other destinations. Hiking to Wagagai, the highest peak on Mount Elgon, the second peak in Uganda, and the fourth highest peak in East Africa which stands at an elevation of 4321 meters. It doesn’t require any special skills to hike and it has a crater that takes about 40 Kilometers at the top of the mountain, surrounded by a series of rugged peaks covered with many flora as well as wild animals.

Mountain Elgon park entrance fees are 35USD for foreigner non-resident, 25USD for foreigner residents, and 15,000UGX for East African citizens but per person and day. While hiking fees for the mountain are 50USD for both foreigner non-residents and foreign residents and 50,000UGX for East Africa citizens per person each day. Then night camping costs 20,000 Ugandan shillings per person and per night, hiring a porter costs UGX 4,000 per porter per day and the chef /cook fee is 30,000UGX per day even though the hikers are many. A sleeping mattress is for 7500UGX and it accommodates one person. Tents accommodate 2 people and it costs 15,000UGX per person. Wagagai peak has various trailheads one can use to reach its top and all have different wonderful experiences. Sasa trail is the most famous route others are Piswa, Saum, and Sipi trail.

Mountain Elgon National Park is found in Eastern Uganda on the border with Kenya and it takes about 140kilometers North East of Lake Victoria. The park can be accessed on either car or bus from Kampala the capital city of Uganda which is over 280kilometers and about 6 hours. It has beautiful scenarios with the caldera which covers 40sq km circumference and 8sq km in diameter, the world’s largest mountain.  Mountain Elgon has an amazing hiking experience that doesn’t require expert skills or equipment.  More so on Mount Elgon is the 8^th highest peak in entire Africa at an elevation of 4,321 meters which is easy to access with no special skills.  It’s the largest extinct volcano in the world that was last erupted 24 million years ago and covering an area of 50 km by 80 km.
