Agashya gorilla family in Volcanoes national park in Rwanda: This mountain gorilla family is also known as group 13, this gorilla family is easy to identify by number and the name, the group has about 25 individuals with 1 silverback, 7 babies, 12 females and 3 juveniles. They enjoy the green vegetation of volcanoes national park in Rwanda.

The name group 13 came about because of the initial 13 members who started in this group at the time of their habituation. This group was initially under the leader Nyakairima before Agashya taking over from him. When Agashya took over group 13, the name of the group was changed to Agashya as well. The name Agashya means news to the people of Rwanda.

On several occasions Agashya acquired the credibility of Nyakairima before top scoring the much contested battle and taking over the leadership of the group. Nyakairima is credited for expanding the size of the family from 13 members to 25 members.

Agashya is always awake and will take the group members up to the raised landscape in case he feels threatened and the members sometimes are worried of some trekkers.

Agashya gorilla family stays on further from Sabyinyo gorilla group. They both live on the slopes of Mountain Sabyinyo and they are one of the greatest pieces of the great Virunga volcanoes.

Note that a maximum of 8 individuals all above 15 years of age are allowed to trek endangered mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking usually takes about 2 to 8 hours depending on how difficult or easy it gets to access these mountain gorillas, also basing on their previously day movements. When you find these mountain gorillas in their habitants you get an opportunity to learn their behaviors, eating or feeding habits, what they eat i.e. insects , bamboo, and you also get an opportunity to take photographs and record memories with them.
